Fleet PlannerThis position is the backbone of daily operations—directly impacting driver experience, customer service, and company profitability. A great Fleet Planner doesn't just move freight—they optimize the entire network while keeping drivers engaged and successful.Key ResponsibilitiesDriver & Capacity ManagementDevelop and execute strategic load plans that maximize driver productivity and revenue per mileBuild and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with drivers through consistent communicationAlign driver preferences (home time, routes, equipment) with operational needsCoach drivers on performance, Hours of Service (HOS), and operational expectationsFreight Planning & OptimizationPlan, assign, and optimize loads to ensure efficient use of fleet capacityBalance service, cost, and driver satisfaction through effective decision-makingUtilize TMS and planning tools to identify opportunities to reduce empty miles and increase utilizationAnticipate and proactively resolve service disruptions or capacity gapsExecution & VisibilityMonitor shipments in transit and ensure on-time pickup and delivery performanceTrack and trace loads, identifying risks and intervening before issues escalateCommunicate effectively with drivers, brokers, shippers, and internal teamsEnsure accurate and timely documentation for all loadsCompliance & SafetyEnsure adherence to DOT regulations, including Hours of Service complianceCoordinate required driver compliance items (e.g., medical cards)Support and reinforce company safety policies and initiativesFinancial & Operational PerformanceMonitor and manage key metrics including utilization, on-time performance, cost per mile, and revenueReview driver pay, accessorials, and advances for accuracyIdentify and implement continuous improvement opportunities in planning processesCollaborationPartner with brokerage, customer service, and supply chain teams to align capacity with demandServe as a key communication hub between drivers and internal stakeholdersContribute to a positive, team-oriented work environmentQualificationsEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required (Bachelor's degree preferred in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Business)Experience2–5+ years of experience in fleet planning, dispatch, or trucking operationsProven success in managing driver relationships and planning freightKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong understanding of trucking operations, DOT regulations, and Hours of ServiceProficiency in Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office (Excel strongly preferred)Exceptional multitasking, prioritization, and problem-solving skillsStrong analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions in real timeExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to perform under pressure and adapt quickly to changing prioritiesCore CompetenciesOperational Excellence – Drives efficiency and executionRelationship Management – Builds trust with drivers and stakeholdersDecision Making – Makes fast, informed, and effective decisionsAccountability – Owns results and follows throughAdaptability – Thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environmentWhat Defines a Top Performer in This RoleConsistently maximizes driver utilization and satisfactionMinimizes service failures and proactively manages disruptionsMaintains strong driver retention through effective communication and trustIdentifies inefficiencies and improves planning processesActs as a leader and problem-solver within the operations team
