Overview Working Title: Workforce Adjunct – Electrical Instructor Role Title: Role Code FLSA Exempt Pay Band: UG Position Number: 280A9999 Agency: Northern VA Community College Division: NV280-VP Workforce Development Work Location: Prince William - 153 Hiring Range: The rate per instructional hour will be commensurate with education and relevant or teaching experience Emergency/Essential Personnel: No EEO Category: I-Faculty Full Time or Part Time: Part Time Telework options: No (telework options are subject to change based on business needs) Work Schedule: Varies; Classes will mostly be evenings and weekends Responsibilities Teach courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from diverse backgrounds using face-to-face, remote, and online formats. Plan and deliver course materials, lesson plans, and an approved syllabus with objectives, learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies, assignments, timelines, and evaluation criteria. Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabi and materials and communicate with students in a timely manner. Deliver course content using varied teaching styles and engaging assignments that demonstrate real-world applications. Maintain enrollment and attendance records, assessments and grades, and submit class rosters and grade sheets by department deadlines. Maintain a hazard-free learning environment and practice safety in labs or classrooms. Adhere to professional ethics in accordance with college policies, procedures, and regulations. Meet assigned classes regularly, submit required records and reports, and teach prescribed courses with established texts in line with college policies. Special assignments may be required and may include assisting in emergency declarations as directed. KSAs / Required Qualifications National Electrical Code (NEC) – Working knowledge of NEC standards, code compliance, and local electrical regulations related to installation, grounding, and protection. Blueprints and Schematics – Ability to read, interpret, and explain electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and one-line schematics. Safety Procedures and Compliance – Understanding of OSHA 10/30 safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements specific to electrical environments. Hands-On Demonstration – Skill in demonstrating electrical techniques safely, including wiring, conduit bending, and circuit assembly. Instructional Delivery – Ability to teach hands-on technical content clearly and effectively to diverse learners. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics – Strong problem-solving skills for identifying and correcting mechanical and electrical faults. Curriculum Integration – Skill in aligning instructional content with industry standards and certification requirements. Electrical Components and Systems – Knowledge of conductors, transformers, motors, panels, breakers, and control systems. Represent NOVA Professionally – Ability to uphold institutional standards and positively represent NOVA Workforce in instructional and industry settings. Minimum Work Experience Prior teaching or training experience in the subject field/industry or demonstrated teaching potential. Practical working experience in the subject field/industry and related industries. Combination of education and industry credentials to demonstrate content expertise applicable to the course being taught. Familiarity with subject area certification processes, guidelines, and procedures. Working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to use computers for class presentations. Additional Considerations Practical working experience in the subject field/industry and related areas. Experience teaching boot camp style training courses. Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment. Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying proficiency levels. Experience working with adult learners.
