Medical Assistant Requirements (Must Meet All to Be Considered)

To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum Medical Assistant requirements:

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program (diploma, certificate, or equivalent education pathway)

Certification (One of the following required or strongly preferred depending on eligibility pathway)

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA AAMA) preferred
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA AMT) preferred
• OR ability to obtain certification within organization-defined timeframe (if applicable internal pathway)

Clinical Experience

• Minimum 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting required
• Experience must include direct patient care responsibilities such as:
  • Vital signs
  • Rooming patients
  • Clinical documentation
  • Basic procedures (injections, EKGs, phlebotomy if applicable by scope)

Highly Preferred (Due to Specialty Complexity)

Experience in any of the following will significantly strengthen consideration:

• Gastroenterology (GI) or Endoscopy
• Interventional Medicine / Procedural Specialties
• Surgical specialty office or procedural clinic
• Experience assisting with:
  • Endoscopic procedures
  • Biopsy support / specimen handling
  • High-acuity outpatient workflows
  • Sterile technique and procedure room turnover

This is a highly specialized Adult GI Interventional environment supporting advanced minimally invasive procedures through Lee Health’s Advanced Interventional Endoscopy program.

You will be working in a setting where providers:

• Perform complex internal GI procedures using advanced endoscopic tools
• Treat high-acuity gastrointestinal conditions without external surgery
• Support more than 1,600 complex cases annually

Because of this, strong foundational MA skills are essential from day one, with a strong preference for those already experienced in procedural or interventional care settings.

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing an excellent customer experience in a team based environment while assisting in all aspects of medical practice under the direct supervision and responsibility of a physician or physician assistant. This position is responsible for patient safety, performing phlebotomy, point of care testing, assisting in minor procedures, processing lab specimens, safe operation of medical equipment, provides patient instructions, and for handling and administering medications according to regulatory standards and organizational policy and procedure under the direct supervision of a physician or physician assistant. This position is responsible for the collection, communication and documentation of accurate patient information/data and maintaining medical records according to regulatory standards and organizational policies and procedures. Other responsibilities include coordinating requests for information and prescriptions, maintain and preparing patient care areas to ensure efficient, effective and safe patient care delivery. Late hours, holidays and weekends may be required. Other duties as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor of the department.

Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or GED Required. Completion of a medical assisting program or postsecondary medical assisting program accredited to prepare the medical assistant to take national CMA (American Association of Medical Assisting), CCMA (National Health Career Association), or RMA (American Medical Technologists) medical assistant certification exam preferred.

Experience: Medical Assistant experience preferred but not required for graduates within 2 years completion of a medical assisting program or postsecondary medical assisting program accredited to prepare the medical assistant to take the national CMA (American Association of Medical Assisting), CCMA (National Health career Association), or RMA (American Medical Technologists).

1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a physicians office or hospital outpatient department may be accepted in lieu of degree/diploma from accredited medical assisting program.

License: Not Required

Certifications: CMA (American Association of Medical Assisting), CCMA (National Health career Association), RMA (American Medical Technologists) preferred. BLS (American Heart Association / Basic Life Support) required (must be obtained within first 90 days of hire).

Other: Medical terminology, communication skills and basic knowledge of computers required. Early/late hours and/or weekends may be required.
