Job Summary Phlebotomist 2 – responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, maintaining high levels of customer service, preparing equipment and supplies, performing venipuncture and plasmapheresis, monitoring donor safety, documenting procedures, managing inventory, mentoring junior staff, troubleshooting equipment, and collaborating with quality assurance in a donation center environment. Responsibilities Ensure total operation is compliant with state and federal regulations (e.g., FDA‑approved SOPs, OSHA, CLIA, and GMP) to maintain the highest production standards. Maintain high-level customer service and positive donor experience in line with company values and culture. Maintain cleanliness of work area to ensure a clean and professional environment. Review and confirm donor identification and maintain donor confidentiality per Standard Operating Procedures. Set up and prepare all equipment and disposable supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis procedure. Label each unit and sample accurately. Execute venipunctures and plasma collection, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. Operate the automated plasmapheresis machines, including response and evaluation of all machine alarms and alerts, donor adverse events, and documenting exceptions. Monitor donor conditions, employing techniques to ensure donor comfort, safety, and the quality of the plasma product. Maintain proper ratio to ensure donor safety and product quality. Disconnect donor and manage disposal of biohazard waste and contaminated equipment in accordance with safety protocols, including cleaning spills and disposition of biohazardous waste. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly calibration/maintenance of automated plasmapheresis machines and remove and/or replace equipment from service if needed. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of necessary records, including Plasmapheresis Machine Logs. Report all unsafe situations and conditions to management. Maintain and restock adequate inventory and replenish supplies on plasma carts. Mentor Phlebotomist I, driving training efficiencies to ensure timeliness and compliance as a Designated Trainer. Troubleshoot machine alarms/alerts and perform QCs routinely (daily/monthly) and periodically (quarterly/annually) on equipment. Partner with Quality Assurance on overall Donor Floor performance (observations, CAPA implementations, and continuous improvement initiatives). Perform First In‑First Out tasks as assigned. Perform other job‑related tasks as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Any specific certification or licensing based on state requirements. Minimum three (3) months’ experience in a medical or health care environment or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Completed documentation of training appropriate for duties prior to performing independently. Strong customer service skills required. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal protocol required. Basic computer knowledge and skills required. Ability to make accurate and complete documentation. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals required. Ability to function effectively in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions. Demonstrated consistency and reliability (good attendance, punctuality, full effort throughout shift, flexibility with schedule) required. Ability to work daytime and evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts on a frequent basis required. Ability to perform venipuncture required. Effective communication skills required. Employee possesses enhanced collaboration and adaptability skills. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty‑five pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel. Ability to utilize all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Occupational exposure to blood‑borne pathogens. Ability to view video display terminal less than 18” away from face for extended periods. Ability to work up to four (4) hours at a time. Ability to enter an environment with a temperature of –40°C according to Standard Operating Procedures. Ability to perform precise tasks that require repetitive small motor skills (e.g., drawing blood). Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.
