Information Security Analyst

Job Overview The Risk Management and Compliance (RMC) team within the Office of Cybersecurity is looking for an experienced risk analyst to address internal security review requests from UW‑Madison campus partners. This includes reviewing new tools, services, platforms or departmental risk reviews to ensure the security of UW‑Madison data at all levels – Public to Restricted (ePHI). As a trusted advisor, you will collaborate with campus partners, service providers and third‑party vendors to assess risk, present findings to stakeholders and recommend improvements. The role supports the establishment and maintenance of an RMC project management tool to improve overall efficiency. Key Responsibilities Design, develop and implement security methodology and infrastructure for major systems. Conduct vulnerability‑scanning analysis, test security controls, document risk assessment results and design preventative procedures. Assist in development and documentation of an RMC project management tool, including processes and workflows. Serve as liaison with campus IT practitioners to gather needs and feedback to ensure efficient RMC processes. Configure, develop and test applications and security controls. Required Qualifications Professional experience conducting risk assessments against recognized standards (NIST, COBIT or ISO) with minimal oversight. Experience working with security requirements within a healthcare, higher‑ed or research organization. Working knowledge of NIST, HIPAA, Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing services. Current professional certification in Information Security or IT Audits. Project management experience setting expectations, communicating across all levels and leading a team. Ability to conduct technical investigations independently, producing detailed written reports and presentations. Preferred Qualifications Experience assessing vendors during procurement and implementation stages. Proficiency with standard industry applications to create or update compliance‑reporting documents. Expertise using vulnerability management tools to analyze vulnerabilities against current configurations. Experience serving as both a lead and a contributing team member on projects. Knowledge of enterprise project management tools (e.g., JIRA). Education Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Compensation & Benefits Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications, with an anticipated range of $99,000–$117,000.
