Electronics Technician

$35 - $39 per hour

Actalent

Electronics Engineering Technician

This role provides hands-on engineering support for the development, modification, and testing of electronic components and products. You will build and test 120V control panel fixtures, troubleshoot electrical devices, and support prototype development activities in an engineering lab environment. Working closely with supervisors, senior technicians, and engineers, you will help ensure that electronic systems and components are designed, fabricated, and tested efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering support activities, including hands-on construction, assembly, and testing for the development of new or modified electronic components and products.
  • Provide technical support to the Prototype Build and Test team to enable efficient execution of building and testing 120V control panel test fixtures under the direction and guidance of supervisors and senior technicians.
  • Design and fabricate parts, components, and sub-systems, or arrange for their fabrication and testing as required for prototype and development projects.
  • Review, mark up, and provide feedback on drawings to support drafting and design documentation, ensuring accuracy and clarity of technical information.
  • Coordinate with internal customers and other departments to design, build, and test component systems, facilitating clear communication and alignment on technical requirements.
  • Troubleshoot nonconforming systems and components, identify root causes of issues, and make recommendations for service, repair, or design improvements.
  • Provide limited technical guidance and assistance to operators and other team members to help complete and coordinate technical activities effectively.
  • Exchange technical information with vendors, customers, and inspectors regarding assigned products and components to support quality, compliance, and performance objectives.
  • Use test equipment such as multimeters and other electronic instrumentation to perform measurements, diagnostics, and verification of circuit performance.
  • Follow all applicable codes, procedures, and internal standards related to the job to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Create and maintain clear and precise technical documentation, and communicate technical information both in writing and verbally.
  • Adhere to the organization's Code of Conduct and Business Ethics standards in all work activities.
Essential Skills
  • Associate degree in engineering science, preferably in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), with a minimum of 3 years of direct work experience with electronic instrumentation, including digital voltmeters (DVMs), is preferred. Other relevant education, or a combination of education and experience, will be considered.
  • Hands-on experience working with 120V electrical circuits.
  • Experience troubleshooting basic electronic circuits using schematics and test equipment.
  • Proficiency in electronics assembly, including PCB-level work and soldering.
  • Ability to solder and remove both through-hole and surface-mount components on printed circuit boards.
  • Experience using various hand tools for fabrication of electronic and power assemblies and subassemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical devices and nonconforming systems and components.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and manage several technical activities concurrently.
  • Ability to interact efficiently and cooperatively with engineers, technicians, and other team members in a technical role.
  • Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced, schedule-driven work environment and to adapt quickly when moving from one task to another.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience using various hand crimp tools for fabrication of wire harnesses is preferred.
  • Familiarity with mechanical assembly and documentation practices related to electronic and power systems.
  • Experience using test equipment such as multimeters and other electronic measurement devices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for conveying technical information clearly and precisely.
  • Attention to detail in reviewing and marking drawings to support drafting and design documentation.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, codes, and standards related to engineering and lab activities.
Work Environment

This role is based in a development center engineering laboratory environment rather than a production setting. You will work closely with engineers, technicians, and prototype teams, using electronic test equipment, hand tools, crimp tools, and soldering equipment to build and evaluate control panel fixtures and electronic assemblies. The work is fast-paced and schedule-driven, with frequent task changes as project priorities evolve. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to codes and procedures, and professional conduct aligned with business ethics standards. The position offers two weeks of paid time off and observes company holidays, providing a supportive and structured setting for technical growth and collaboration.
