Principal Electrical Engineer

Job Description

A lead defense contractor located in Simi Valley, CA is looking to hire an onsite Principal Electrical Engineer, working a 9/80 schedule. They're looking for this Principal Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of electrical systems for advanced UAV and autonomous systems programs. This individual will serve as the technical lead for electrical engineering efforts, providing ownership of system architecture, circuit design, power electronics, avionics integration, and PCB development while mentoring and guiding other engineers across the program. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in electrical design, power distribution, embedded systems, and avionics, with the ability to lead small engineering teams, solve complex technical challenges, and take ownership of electrical systems from concept through testing and production. This role is paying between $147-224k, depending on qualifications and experience.

Skills and Requirements

• 12+ years of Electrical Engineering experience in R&D, aerospace, defense, robotics, or similar industries; ability to lead a technical electrical engineering team
• Strong experience with: Circuit design, Power electronics & power distribution, Avionics and embedded systems
• RF systems
• Experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Understanding of PCB design, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of battery-powered systems, Battery Management Systems (BMS), and charging systems.
• Familiarity with communication protocols such as SPI, UART, CAN, I2C, USB, HDMI, and Ethernet
• Experience with UAVs, aircraft systems, robotics, autonomous vehicles, or underwater systems.
• FPGA experience.
• Hands-on experience with soldering, wiring, and test harness fabrication.
• Flight test or hardware integration experience.
