The Senior Mental Health Clinician , under general supervision, is responsible for providing mental health counseling and outreach that is responsive to the unique backgrounds and needs of individuals, couples, and groups. This position assists in the coordination of counseling services, programs, and the development of new programs as well as provides training seminars and sharing professional expertise. May provide supervision for clinical staff and graduate trainees in counseling or mental health care. This role supports the mission of University Health Services by fostering the mental well-being and holistic development of Texas A&M students.
This position will be housed off-site while reporting to the home office of University Health Services in the Student Services Building (SSB). This position will be supervised by a licensed clinician while partnering with administration in the respective college or department to serve the needs of the student population in that area of campus. The Senior Mental Health Clinician will meet weekly with their UHS team, attend staff meetings, and attend case consultations with fellow clinicians. A significant portion of the role may include teaching mental health topics in large classroom settings and developing close consultation partnerships with faculty and staff in the respective campus spaces.

Salary: Starting at $83,000/annually.

Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or other degree acceptable to the Texas State Board of Examiners for Professional Counselors, Social Workers, or Marriage and Family Therapists.
Five years full-time equivalent, independent licensure experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant setting.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Licensed in the State of Texas within one year of employment.
Must maintain licensure for continued employment.
Eligible to Supervisor in accordance with Texas licensing board .
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in an off-site counseling office in a higher education setting, and/or experience working independently in a private practice.
7 or more years of experience in a University or College counseling center or other closely related setting.
Experience with crisis intervention and risk assessment.
Experience in providing outreach and mental health education.
Experience supervising clinical trainees or licensed associate clinicians.
Ability to provide clinical counseling in more than one language utilized by A&M students.
Training in evidence-based practices and/or related areas of specialization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work as a generalist who serves all student presenting concerns.
Demonstrated experience working with individuals that are representative of our TAMU counseling center clients.
Training in evidence-based practices and/or related areas of specialization.
Ability to assess for crisis stabilization concerns and hospitalize when appropriate.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Ability to work autonomously from an off-site office while maintaining close relationships with UHS and the partner administrative team.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Adherence to the Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for the relevant Texas State Licensing Board, the code of ethics relevant to their field, and all relevant federal and state laws.
Responsibilities
Clinical Services & Supervision Provided:
Provides mental health counseling as well as crisis intervention to individuals, couples, and groups.
Independently assesses clients, creates care plan, and provides treatment services and referrals.
Independently manages complex and high-risk situations.
Engages in case management and referrals.
May provide weekly supervision/training including review of recorded sessions and case review for provisionally licenses Mental Health Clinicians and/or practicum students.
Delivers mental health related outreach, presentations, workshops to students, faculty, and staff.
Provides consultation to faculty, staff, trainees, students, and families regarding student's mental health and well-being.
Mentors early career professionals in creating treatment plans and providing clinical services.
Consults with other professionals when managing complex and/or crisis situations.
Departmental Needs:
At times of high student need, flexes schedule to provide additional clinical services including appointments, outreach, crisis, and other duties as needed.
Serves on departmental committees and meetings, division and university committees, and other university functions.
Assists with organizational and administrative tasks, as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Administrative Needs:
Meets ethical obligations for timely documentation of counseling services per State of Texas licensure requirements and University Health Services policies.
Provides adjunct support and/or training seminars for trainees and early career professionals.
Supports clinical operations through organizational and administrative tasks related to client care.
Professional Development:
Per state licensure requirements, participates in continuing education and professional development activities related to the performance of job functions, emerging trends in college mental health and maintenance of skills in one’s professional specialty area.
Maintains currency of practice through professional literature review, organizational research and evaluation activities, and shares with peers. Provides professional presentations as appropriate.

Other Requirements and Factors:
This position may require a flexible schedule for evening and weekend work for outreach and/or crisis response.
Embedded roles may additionally require regularly scheduled evening appointments, dependent on the needs of the partner and student population.
Travel to non-BCS locations approximately once per month per semester. Travel sites could include Round Rock, Houston, or Kingsville.
Because this position is embedded in an off-site counseling office, the clinician may solely deal with crisis consultation from the partner faculty and staff within the embedded campus office. As such, the ability to comfortably handle most crises and possibly hospitalizations independently as well as unplanned flexibility to meet the needs of the student population when crises run late beyond 5 pm is critical for this role.
This position may direct and/or evaluate the work of others.
The individual in this position may be required to handle Personally Identifiable Information1 (PII) as defined by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations and Protected Health Information2 (PHI) as defined by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. The individual is required to handle PII and PHI in accordance with University Health Services (UHS), Texas A&M University System policies, and all applicable federal regulations.
1PII includes information that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, either alone or when combined with other personal or identifying information.
2PHI refers to any health information that can be linked to a specific individual and is protected under federal privacy regulations.
FERPA and HIPAA training are required upon employment and must be completed on a recurring basis as determined by policy and job duties.
