We have fun and we are also dedicated public servants who care deeply about our community. WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION This is a flexible position based at Zach Gordon Youth Center in downtown Juneau. Hours are primarily 10:00am-6:00pm Monday through Friday, working one or two shifts per week from 12:00pm-8:00pm. In this position you will be providing outreach and support to youth who are homeless or otherwise in need of being connected to services. You will act in the role of advocate for youth as you support them in navigating a large variety of social services, housing, mental health and other supports. The incumbent will work with both teens who may be on their own and you will also assist younger youth and their families in addressing needs and assisting them to access services such as food security, rental assistance, or transportation assistance. You will work closely with partner organizations to accept referrals and make referrals. This includes AWARE, The Glory Hall, Family Promise, St. Vincent de Paul, the BRH Navigators program, Front Street Clinic, JAMHI and more. You will work particularly closely with landlords and Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority to enroll youth in their Rapid Rehousing rental assistance program. You will be responsible for data entry into the Alaska Homeless Management Information System (AKHMIS) and for completing associated paperwork. You will also assist youth filling out necessary documents such as enrollment forms, leases, job applications and more. This position will also assist with special events and provide facility supervision in the absence of the Program Coordinator. Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent Substitution: Post-secondary education from an accredited institution in the social, behavior, or health sciences, law, or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience on the basis of 3 semester hours (4 quarter hours) for one (1) month of experience (36 semester hours or 48 quarter hours is equivalent to 1 year). AND Any combination of experience or post-secondary education totaling one (1) year that includes volunteering or working with youth, education, job readiness, employment skills, caregiving or achieving healthy behaviors and developing healthy lifestyle choices. License / Certification: Valid Driver’s License by time of appointment and for continued employment. First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment Under Alaska Statute 12.62.400 (9) Appointment to this position is offered conditionally, pending the results of a National Criminal History report through the FBI. Applicants must submit their fingerprints to continue in the hiring approval process. The applicant will receive a copy of the report of findings and may dispute within 5 days of receiving them. Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors.
