You will be expected to grow in the key aspects of consulting, including technical expertise and effective spoken and written communications, to develop a consulting practice serving clients both within and outside the firm.You will be responsible forConducting hands-on analyses of mechanical equipment failures to understand what happened and the cause of the failure in collaboration with experts in other engineering disciplinesCreating written reports and presentations and presenting these communications to both technical and non-technical clientsSupporting an expansive internal client base that works collaboratively to solve complex, real-world problems associated with various types of mechanical equipmentPlanning and executing custom laboratory tests using a variety of traditional and novel methodsPerforming calculations and analyses, creating written reports and presentations, and performing field inspectionsYou will have the following skills and qualificationsPh.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Engineering Mechanics and/or similar fields with an emphasis on machine design, robotics, mechatronics, hydraulics, tribology, or mechanical testingExtensive experience performing engineering analysis of machine components such as shafts, gears, bearings, brakes, seals, springs, and/or boltsA strong foundation in engineering statics, dynamics, and solid mechanicsHands-on experience with design, fabrication, and prototyping of mechanical systemsHands-on experience with basic laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and data collection as well as the ability to independently design and execute experimentsExperience with engineering related software, for example: LabView, Matlab, Python, MathCAD, Solidworks, AutocadExcellent project ownership characteristics, including resourcefulness, technical curiosity, and a strong commitment to technical rigor and qualityStrong ability to distill complex technical information and present it effectively to individuals in engineering, business, legal and related industriesInterest in applying technical and managerial skills to direct staffing, budget, and client interactionsEntrepreneurial aptitude to seek new client relationships to grow a client baseWillingness to travel, often on short noticeFamiliarity with photography is a plusPresently legally authorized to work in the United States. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent.
