The General Academic Advisor will support a caseload of students by providing academic advising, student support, and programming that enhances student achievement and timely graduation. Key Responsibilities:
- Academic Advising, Retention, & Graduation Initiatives : Provide holistic academic guidance, student success and degree-planning support, policy interpretation, milestone outreach, retention and graduation intervention, inter-department communication, petition coordination, advising material development, and data-informed support for students and faculty.
- Major Exploration Outreach: Promote CAL majors, minors, and engagement opportunities by conducting outreach to undeclared and admitted students, collaborating Undeclared Advisers, and responding to student, parent, and visitor inquiries.
- Special Event Support : Provide logistical and coordination support for special events ranging from venue setup, program planning, event materials creation, and department representation at Explore SDSU Open House and the CAL Student Success Workshops series.
- This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
- This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego and will be eligible for telework after an initial training period.
- Master's degree in student personnel, higher education/student affairs, counseling or related field.
- Experience advising diverse groups of students and student organizations along the academic spectrum including, promising students, students in the middle or high achieving students.
- Knowledge of a variety of academic disciplines in terms of course requirements and career paths.
- Experience utilizing SDSU Navigate advising (EAB) and similar academic advising tools.
- Two years of experience in interpreting and explaining academic policies governing public or private university admissions.
- Two years of experience working in a college or university admissions, advising, evaluations, registrar or other student service-related office.
Salary is based on your experience, education, and qualifications, within the department's budget and equity guidelines.
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228/month; hiring salary not expected to exceed $5,083/month .
