Radiologic Technologist

Under general supervision, specializes in the performance of computerized tomographic radiological procedures on patients. May perform general diagnostic radiology examinations. Explains examination procedures to patients and prepares them for the examination. Reviews clinical data on requisition and performs appropriate examinations. Obtains additional information about the patient's medical history as necessary. Prepares the procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies. Analyzes anatomical structures of patients, sets up equipment, and performs the CT scan. Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied. Administers intravenous contrast media, including utilization of power injectors. Monitors patients for possible reactions as appropriate to the study and provides immediate care if a reaction occurs. May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for the procedure performed. Ensures adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored. Assists in performing complex sterile diagnostic procedures such as biopsies. Performs all imaging procedures by demonstrating principles of radiation protection. May involve shielding of patients and selection of appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose. Resolves any image exceptions and ensures high-quality image delivery into the system. Completes all study indexing, including study begin, study end, and the completion of the study in the information system. Reviews and confirms clinical protocols before performing the study. Demonstrates team member standards of excellence including open communication, responding in a timely manner, and displaying a positive attitude. Performs all documentation in the medical record as necessary to support clinical functions. May work in a fixed unit or in an ambulatory mobile unit. Potential exposure to radiation, high-voltage equipment, and contagious patients. Occasionally may lift and/or move equipment and/or patients exceeding 10 lbs.
