Overview

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Systems Engineer and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will qualify as Technical Staff for WIPP systems as assigned by the Engineering Manager. Provide real-time support to plant modifications to ensure accuracy to design drawings and other Technical Baseline documents. Perform as-built field verifications of selected structures, systems, components, and drawings that depict the actual plant conditions. Become the technical expert in their respective structures, systems, and components, and develop Engineering Change Notices. Become the system expert and maintain system specifications, configuration management, and design documents to ensure compliance with WIPP Documented Safety Analysis and site procedures as appropriate. Candidate will be required to complete training for unescorted and underground access. Must be able to complete Technical Staff qualification in a timely manner upon assigned system responsibilities. This position requires the ability to perform field work in varied conditions, including indoors and outdoors, surface, and underground.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Preferred Requirements

• Previous WIPP Project experience a plus.

Exempt grade level(s) 28-30. Minimum salary range $70,972 - $123,573 per year --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
