Associate Distribution Engineer

Associate Distribution Engineer Leidos is seeking Associate Distribution Engineers in Atlanta, GA who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. This role supports our Electric Grid Modernization and Power Delivery programs and involves working directly with clients to deliver high‑quality work in areas such as NESC compliance, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. Responsibilities Support design engineering efforts for electric utility projects, assisting with individual design tasks and quality control activities under the guidance of senior engineers. Assist in developing work packages for overhead (OH) and underground (UG) distribution design. Support electric utility grid infrastructure projects focused on system expansion, reliability improvements, and grid modernization initiatives. Collaborate with engineers and design leads to address client needs while supporting scope, schedule, and quality objectives. Participate in reviewing engineering design packages and contribute to planning, documentation, and customer follow‑up activities. Assist with scope analysis of assigned work and help maintain schedule adherence to support client priorities. Continuously build technical knowledge of utility standards, distribution design practices, and grid engineering processes. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workflow efficiency and support high‑quality design deliverables. Assist in coordinating with utilities and field engineering teams to support design requirements, helping develop design packages for cable/conduit projects in urban environments. Support activities related to work permits, easements, and right‑of‑way (ROW) applications under the guidance of senior team members. Gain experience using industry‑standard utility design tools, including PoleForeman, AutoCAD, GIS platforms, and other engineering software, to support distribution design and engineering deliverables. Be comfortable in both field and office settings; the role may require customer site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages. Participate in customer‑facing activities and meetings as needed. (Job‑related travel will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates.) Background Requirements Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred) from an ABET‑accredited institution; additional relevant experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree. Interest in or exposure to electric utility distribution engineering, grid infrastructure, power delivery, or grid modernization projects. Experience with or knowledge of NESC standards. Familiarity with JETS, GIS, AutoCAD, and/or PoleForeman is highly preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required. Ability to learn utility design software, engineering standards, and customer‑specific work management systems. Ability to provide reliable transportation, as some customer‑related travel may be required. (Job‑related travel will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates.) Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Internship, co‑op, academic project, or professional experience supporting electric utility, power delivery, or infrastructure projects. Experience using AutoCAD, PoleForeman, GIS, JETS, or other utility design software. Familiarity with utility work management systems and engineering design processes. Knowledge of overhead and underground electric distribution systems. Understanding of utility permitting, easements, and right‑of‑way requirements. Desire to develop a career in electric utility engineering, grid modernization, and power delivery design.
