Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical/Surgical and Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 18 months experience in Med/Surg/Telemetry License: Valid nursing license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - General Med/Tele skillset - Stroke experience - Cardiac rhythm interpretation - Tracheostomy care - Peripheral IV starts - Chest tube management - Nasogastric tube placement - Drain and tube management (e.g., Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management) - PCA pump medication management - Cardiac drips and blood product management Description: We are seeking a Registered Nurse for the MedSurg/Telemetry unit. This position involves providing care to a diverse patient population. The nurse will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation. Patient types will include Med/Tele overflow to support inpatient units and emergency department holding. Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, chest pain workup, stroke symptoms, and respiratory issues. The expected patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:5-6, with critical surge ratios of 1:7-8. Certified nursing assistants will also support the unit with expected ratios of 1:6-12. The role includes working with various members of the healthcare team, including charge nurses, receptionists, and phlebotomists. Telemetry monitoring will be available, and a resource nurse will be on staff as staffing allows. Floating to other units may be required based on patient needs and scope of practice. Traveling staff will be compensated for time spent traveling between facilities. Weekend rotations are expected every other weekend, and holiday work will be required for 75% of holidays. Approved time off is limited to six days, excluding holidays, and must be added to the end of the contract if not met. The schedule will follow a six-week cycle.
