Credentialing Specialist

$19.03 - $31.39 per hour

Summary Reporting to the Credentials Coordinators and the Credentials Manager, this role facilitates regulatory and accreditation requirements governing credentialing and privileging of medical and allied health staff across Brown University Health System facilities including community hospitals, clinics, outpatient services, and BHMG group practices. The position requires understanding of federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and licensing requirements that govern the credentialing, privileging, and peer review processes. Responsibilities Process departmental credentialing requests according to established procedures and timelines. Prepare initial and reappointment application packets for assigned areas. Track and document application status, following up on missing data and discrepancies. Initiate and manage verification processes within established timeframes. Respond to verification requests, validate applicant information, and resolve discrepancies. Maintain electronic records for all practitioners in the credentialing database. Ensure data integrity and utilize database tracking reports for accuracy. Document interactions with internal and external customers in appropriate database fields. Assist in developing and revising credentialing and audit workflows. Maintain competency through vendor education and industry initiatives (e.g., NAMSS, MAMSS). Participate in orientation of new staff members and perform other duties as assigned. Education High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. CPCS certification preferred. Experience Strong organizational skills to handle high data flow and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Self-motivated ability to manage demanding workload with minimal supervision. Analytical skills to evaluate completeness of application information. Attention to detail and concentration on tasks. Capacity to manage multiple projects or tasks with appropriate follow-up. Experience managing specialized databases and generating reports. Adherence to professional confidentiality standards. Diplomatic handling of sensitive information. Effective communication with applicants and colleagues by telephone or in person. Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams. Problem-solving and negotiation capabilities. Self-directed learning and minimal direction required.
