Custodian - Night Shift

Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/ Custodian Location: District (BO) Qualifications Ability to read and write English. General knowledge of cleaning and sanitary methods. New employees must obtain a low pressure boiler license (Black Seal) within three years from date of hire. Essential Duties The Custodian has the duties and responsibilities commonly associated with this position, including (but not limited to) the following, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority, within the framework of the general laws of New Jersey, the regulations of the NJ State Department of Education, the policies and rules of the Nutley School District, and the terms of the contract with the Nutley Education Association, with all of which he/she is expected to be familiar. As well, the position is responsible for duties commonly associated with communication positions, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority. General Duties and Responsibilities Sweep classroom, corridor, auditorium, and gymnasium floors. Snow Removal Mandatory Mop floors in designated areas. Clean rest rooms and locker rooms. Wash windows. Dust and wax furniture. Wash walls. Wash chalk boards as required Clean Lockers Dust light fixtures. Strip and wax floors Change light bulbs and ballasts. Empty trash cans. Empty trash from building for disposal. Remove litter and debris from grounds around building. Assist in lunch program. Receive, store and distribute items delivered to schools. Vacuum and shampoo carpets. Setup, move or dismantle furniture, portable equipment and/or materials. Repair or replace shades. Paint areas as assigned. Operate the building fire alarm and security alarm Remove ice and snow from sidewalks and entrance ways and provide for safe access to building. Also aid in cleaning of driveways and playgrounds and parking lots as may e needed. Report any hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions, that the employee is unable to safely and expeditiously remedy, to the head custodian and/or principal. Assist maintenance employees as needed. Perform preventive minor maintenance as assigned. Perform other duties as may be assigned by building principal/manager of buildings and grounds. Evaluation of Performance Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code and Board of Education policy. Additional Responsibilities Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal, manager of buildings and grounds, business administrator or superintendent may assign or delegate. Computer Skills Proficient in computer applications pertinent to support the position.
