Maintenance Technician

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of industrial baking, packaging, and automated production equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong electrical and mechanical experience and enjoy working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where no two days are the same.

You will play a key role in keeping production lines running efficiently by performing preventive maintenance, responding to equipment breakdowns, and supporting equipment upgrades and continuous improvement projects. This position is hiring up to $40/hr!

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on production, packaging, and facility equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
• Troubleshoot and maintain motors, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, sensors, photo-eyes, and automated systems.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and complete repairs to minimize downtime.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
• Install, repair, and maintain conveyors, mixers, ovens, proofers, chillers, compressors, baggers, cartoners, and other production equipment.
• Tear down, rebuild, and reassemble machinery as needed.
• Perform motor repairs, replacements, wiring, and installations, including three-phase motors.
• Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, startup, and acceptance testing.
• Repair and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Perform welding and basic fabrication as needed for repairs and equipment modifications.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and repair documentation.
• Communicate equipment status and ongoing repairs during shift handoffs.
• Follow all GMP, food safety, and company safety requirements.

Required Qualifications

• 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Experience working with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and industrial controls.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Experience using volt meters and electrical testing equipment.
• Knowledge of three-phase power systems and motor controls.
• Experience repairing bearings, sprockets, gears, shafts, conveyors, and related mechanical equipment.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple maintenance tasks.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in food manufacturing, bakery production, or packaging environments.
• PLC programming and advanced troubleshooting experience.
• Boiler and HVAC maintenance experience.
• Welding and fabrication experience, including TIG and stick welding.
• Experience with automated packaging equipment, including baggers and cartoners.
• Knowledge of bulk ingredient handling systems and pneumatic conveying systems.
• Experience calibrating scales, metal detectors, and quality control equipment.

Work Environment & Schedule

This position supports a large food manufacturing operation and works with a wide variety of industrial equipment, including ovens, conveyors, mixers, packaging machines, compressors, automation systems, and bulk material handling equipment.

Available shifts include:

• 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM
• 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM

The position requires working across multiple buildings on the same campus and may include travel between buildings throughout the shift. Maintenance Technicians regularly use electrical testing equipment, hand tools, welding equipment, and fabrication tools while following strict safety and GMP standards.

Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
