Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical

Job Overview City/State: Norfolk, VA Work Shift: Multiple shifts available — full time, night shift (7pm-7am) and weekend night shift. Sentara is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical Surgical Department at Norfolk General Hospital. Sign on bonus up to $20,000 offered for qualified candidates. Responsibilities Provide competent nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of care). Deliver patient education, health promotion, and evaluation. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team, adhere to professional nursing standards, and promote quality patient outcomes. Care for adult surgical patients in a 42‑bed telemetry‑monitored unit, including specialties such as urology, general surgery, ENT, plastic surgery, GYN surgery, surgical oncology, and trauma overflow. Provide care to patients with renal disease, diabetes, COPD, heart failure, epilepsy monitoring, and living kidney donor transplant. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing (RN degree). Virginia RN License required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire. Prior RN experience preferred. Strong critical‑thinking, communication, and leadership skills. Commitment to evidence‑based practice and quality improvement.
