Embark on a Journey of Impactful AdventureUnder the direction of the Camp Director, this seasonal position supports the Camp Director in all facets of Day Camp operation including staff scheduling, training and supervision. An association of nine YMCAs serving Chester County, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child, promoting healthy living, and fostering social responsibility through life-changing programs for all.Perks & BenefitsFree family YMCA membership, including outdoor poolsMedical, dental, and vision insurance, along with paid holidays and plentiful PTO for full-time employeesBabysitting while you work (up to 4 hours per day)Generous program discounts on childcare, camp, youth sports, swimming lessons and more!12% employer contribution to retirement savings upon reaching eligibility and optional 403B retirement savings plan upon hire.Employee Assistance ProgramContinuing education reimbursement, tuition discounts with Chestnut Hill College and Immaculata UniversityCareer development and paid trainingUnlimited referral bonus beginning at $300.00What You’ll DoCollaborates with camp leadership for scheduling, training, supervising and evaluating performance of day camp staff.Assists with the oversight and implementation of day camp curriculum with emphasis of theme week/days and fun activities for campersAssists with the planning, scheduling, and supervision of Family Fun Events for camp.Assists with scheduled camp staff meetings. • Coordinates, develops, and implements plans for themes, lessons, and age-appropriate activities for camp that reflect the philosophy of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine.Provide direction and communication feedback to counselors regarding related issues as well as administrative issues and decisions.Develops and maintains good working relationships with the directors, staff, caregivers and families by way of open communication, positive problem solving, flexibility, and teamwork.Maintains YMCA requirements/ratios and ensures all staff members do the same.Ensure comprehensive compliance with all YMCA policies, Praesidium standards, American Camp Association (ACA) standards, and state licensing requirementsServe as incident commander for unit-level emergencies and coordinate with camp leadership on broader emergency response • Document and report all incidents, accidents, and behavioral concerns following established protocolsMonitor health and wellness of campers and staff, coordinating with Camp leadership as neededConduct hourly ratio checks and maintain required camper to staff ratios and ensure staff certification complianceParticipate in strategic planning, pre-season preparation, and post-season evaluation processesAssume acting camp leadership responsibilities when Assistant Camp Director or Camp Director are unavailable • Performs other related duties as assigned.What You'll NeedMinimum 18 years of age (required) • Associates degree in Education, Recreation, Youth Development, or related field preferred; OR 2-5 years progressive YMCA camp experienceMinimum 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience in youth programsValid driver's license with clean driving record preferredCurrent CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or ability to obtain prior to start date)Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office products with ability to use technology for programmatic needsKnowledge of database software preferredExcellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skillsGood judgment and ability to problem solveAttend all required pre-camp and camp season trainings and meetings as scheduledKnowledge of American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation standards preferredCompletion of all required pre-camp training, certifications, and background clearances by first day of campWork Conditions and Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
