Founding Lead Stylist (Menswear)

Spiffy is seeking a full-time, menswear-lovin', eagle-eye-in-the-sky, conversation-carryin', dress-to-the-nines, sharp-as-a-tack Founding Lead Stylist who loves aaalllllll things fashion and wearing crazy hats at work (sometimes literally)! In addition to styling future clients, sourcing inventory, and coming up with cool new ideas to create the best client experience on planet Earth, you'll be constantly testing new things and building a brand-new Asheville business from the ground up! 

If your regular vocabulary includes terms like "hopsack" and "donegal," you know what "OCBD" stands for, and you "style" instead of "dress," you may be barkin' up the right tree!

We don't believe in disposable clothing, nor do we believe in disposable people. Spiffy is a personal style company powered by (carefully curated) clothing that already exists. Right now, we're laser-focused on menswear and creating the best client experience on the planet. We're funded, the founder (hi, I'm Kenan!) has started, built, and sold two companies, and we're eager to grow quickly with your fashion expertise leading the way! We're so new that today Spiffy is me, about 300 hand-picked secondhand pieces, some racks, and a plan. As employee number one, you'll help us open the doors, make meaningful decisions, and get super creative!

The base salary for this position is $72,000 to $82,000, and we offer exceptional bonus structures, big PTO, and lots more. The styling happens in person in Asheville, on a set full-time schedule we build around your life, together, before you start, including some weekends (because…well…that's when a lot of men shop).

Essential Responsibilities (including but definitely not limited to!)

• Run styling appointments with clients (one stylist per client, so you build real relationships) based around a world-class experience, not just another run-of-the-mill booking
• Help clients take home the whole look, not just one lonely shirt (shouldn't be hard when you're making them look this spiffy!), and you're always free to tell a client he doesn't need anything today
• Measure, pin, and mark so our tailors nail the fit every single time
• Convert your fashion knowledge into sustainable, long-term company policies
• Help hunt down amazing secondhand menswear and decide what earns a spot on our rack
• Own the style and fit promise
• Help build the operating standards for the future

Position Requirements

• 4+ years in menswear styling, working directly with clients
• Knowledge of clothing at the construction level (you can spot a canvassed jacket from across the room)
• You've proven that you can build something from nothing (a resale shop, a styling side hustle, a pop-up, a following, a department, etc.)
• You can ask for the sale without clients (or you) feeling the "ick"
• Comfortable with technology, social media/marketing appearances, and rapid change

Bonus Points

• You've bought or sold secondhand or vintage (eBay, Depop, Poshmark, your own shop, whatever!)
• You've done made-to-measure or custom fittings
• You understand (and hopefully love) startup environments
