Position Summary

The Associate Therapist provides clinical services to individuals participating in outpatient mental health and substance use disorder treatment programs. This is a pre-licensed clinical position for a California-registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) or Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) who is actively working toward independent licensure.

The Associate Therapist will provide individual, group, and family therapy within the scope of their education, training, and California registration. Clinical work will be performed under the direction and supervision of Prosperous Health’s on-site LMFT Clinical Lead.

Prosperous Health will provide required clinical supervision, ongoing case consultation, and professional support to help the associate develop clinical competency and accrue qualifying experience hours toward California licensure, subject to all applicable Board of Behavioral Sciences requirements.

The ideal candidate is eager to grow as a clinician, receptive to supervision and feedback, passionate about serving individuals affected by mental health and substance use disorders, and committed to ethical, trauma-informed, client-centered care.

Reporting and Clinical Supervision

The Associate Therapist reports to the on-site LMFT Clinical Lead and works as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

The LMFT Clinical Lead will provide:

• Clinical supervision consistent with California Board of Behavioral Sciences requirements
• Ongoing review of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and clinical interventions
• Case consultation and guidance regarding risk, safety, crisis response, and ethical concerns
• Support with professional development and progress toward independent licensure
• Assistance with required supervision documentation and experience verification, as applicable
• Availability for consultation when client needs exceed the associate’s current level of experience or scope of practice

All clinical services must be performed under appropriate supervision and in accordance with the associate’s professional scope, demonstrated competence, organizational policies, and applicable California law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supervised Clinical Services

Under the direction and supervision of the LMFT Clinical Lead, the Associate Therapist will:

• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, clinical screenings, risk assessments, and other evaluations appropriate to the associate’s scope and level of competence
• Contribute to diagnostic formulation and clinical decision-making in consultation with the Clinical Lead and treatment team
• Develop individualized treatment plans aligned with each client’s clinical needs, strengths, and recovery goals
• Provide individual therapy using evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches
• Facilitate psychoeducational and process-oriented group therapy sessions
• Conduct family and collateral sessions when clinically appropriate and properly authorized
• Monitor client progress and recommend treatment-plan adjustments in consultation with the Clinical Lead
• Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, safety planning, and appropriate escalation under established clinical protocols
• Promptly consult the Clinical Lead regarding elevated risk, complex clinical presentations, ethical concerns, or matters outside the associate’s experience or scope
• Coordinate care with authorized providers, referral sources, and members of the multidisciplinary team
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and therapeutic relationships

Evidence-based approaches may include:

• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
• Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
• Motivational Interviewing (MI)
• Trauma-Informed Care
• Solution-Focused Therapy
• EMDR, when appropriately trained and supervised
  

Documentation and Compliance

• Complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other clinical documentation accurately and within required timelines
• Maintain complete and organized client records in the electronic health record
• Submit documentation for supervisory review when required
• Make timely corrections or additions based on clinical and quality-assurance feedback
• Follow HIPAA requirements and all applicable federal and California confidentiality standards
• Comply with California Board of Behavioral Sciences requirements governing registered associates and supervised clinical practice
• Follow applicable licensing, certification, payer, and accreditation requirements
• Uphold professional, ethical, and organizational standards at all times
• Accurately maintain personal supervision and experience records required for licensure
  

Collaboration and Team Participation

• Participate in multidisciplinary treatment-team meetings, case consultations, and care-coordination activities
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, medical providers, case managers, utilization-review personnel, and other clinical staff
• Attend and actively participate in required individual or group clinical supervision
• Prepare cases and clinical questions for supervision
• Incorporate supervisory feedback into clinical practice and documentation
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional-development activities
• Contribute to a respectful, accountable, and collaborative clinical culture

Professional Development

• Work actively toward independent California licensure
• Maintain an active and unrestricted California associate registration
• Remain current on registration-renewal requirements and applicable BBS regulations
• Develop competency in evidence-based treatment for mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders
• Participate in continuing education and organization-sponsored training
• Demonstrate openness to coaching, evaluation, corrective feedback, and continued clinical development
• Support quality-improvement and clinical-excellence initiatives
  

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist with clinical program development and implementation as assigned
• Participate in utilization-review and quality-assurance activities appropriate to the position
• Support coordination across Prosperous Health programs and levels of care
• Perform other duties consistent with the associate’s qualifications, scope of practice, and level of supervision

Qualifications

Required

• Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or a closely related field meeting California licensure-pathway requirements
• Current and active California Board of Behavioral Sciences registration as one of the following:
  • Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), or
  • Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW)
• Registration in good standing and eligibility to accrue supervised experience toward California licensure
• Foundational knowledge of clinical assessment, treatment planning, risk assessment, and clinical documentation
• Familiarity with evidence-based and recovery-oriented treatment practices
• Ability and willingness to practice under supervision and seek consultation when clinically appropriate
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team
• Ability to complete accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Basic proficiency with electronic health record systems and Microsoft Office
• Ability to pass all required background, credentialing, and employment screenings

Preferred

• Practicum, traineeship, internship, or employment experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment
• Experience in outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential, or inpatient settings
• Experience working with clients who have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
• Training or supervised experience in CBT, DBT, MI, EMDR, trauma-informed care, or solution-focused therapy
• Familiarity with crisis intervention, suicide-risk assessment, and safety planning
• Bilingual abilities

Prior post-graduate employment experience is welcomed but not required. Candidates with strong graduate-level practicum or traineeship experience are encouraged to apply.

Compensation and Employment

• $60,000–$75,000 annually, depending on relevant experience, clinical training, and qualifications
