Current employees will be compensated in accordance with the DCF salary policy. What You Will Do Families in need and in crisis require time‑sensitive actions from strong, compassionate individuals. As an Eligibility Specialist, you will be tasked with determining the eligibility of applicants and recipients for government assistance programs. The work performed includes processing data from electronic sources and entering information into a computer‑based eligibility system under state and federal requirements. Responsibilities Interview applicants to obtain and verify information needed to determine eligibility for Food Assistance, Medicaid, and Cash Assistance. Learn state and federal program regulations through intensive training and ongoing instruction. Instruct clients in completing forms and review applications for completeness and accuracy. Determine program eligibility using a computer‑based eligibility system according to current regulations. Research information provided by applicants until satisfactory explanations regarding eligibility status are confirmed. Report cases where identity theft or fraud is suspected. Advise clients of deadlines, time frames, and necessary actions. Work with clients who may not take the necessary actions within the required time frame. Establish and maintain multiple electronic files and conduct regular reviews and updates. Document all communications and contacts with clients. Manage an electronic caseload that varies based on community needs, ensuring accuracy and timely processing per federal and state regulations. Compute and authorize government assistance benefits based on financial and family status, and explain monthly benefit amounts to customers. Stay current with changes in rules, laws, procedures, and other factors affecting timeliness and accuracy. Provide face‑to‑face contact with clients as required. Qualifications Two years or more of customer service, interviewing, recruiting, investigating, accounting, insurance policy processing, or determining eligibility; OR an associate degree or higher; OR 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours to substitute for experience. (Attach required education, certification, or licensure.) Ability to attend an 8‑12 week mandatory training course. Additional Information / Requirements All eligible candidates will be required to complete a skills assessment (typing speed, general aptitude, and personality profile) within 3 days of receiving the assessment link. Hired candidates may be eligible for telework after nine months, completion of training, and meeting performance expectations. Language proficiency may be considered during selection as needed by the Agency. Incumbents may be expected to work during emergency situations or natural disasters. Communicate with others to obtain and verify eligibility information. Detect and evaluate potential fraudulent situations. Analyze written, numerical, and verbal data from various sources. Enter data accurately into a computerized system. Navigate computer screens and complete basic documents and forms. Plan and organize caseload to meet regulations on eligibility and timeliness. Read, understand, and apply detailed regulations and policy directives. Perform accurate and rapid mathematical computations. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public and staff. Use computers and related software packages. Follow written and oral directions and instructions.
