Operations Manager

Description


Manage day-to-day operations of a commercial calibration and repair laboratory to meet and exceed customer requirements and company objectives. Responsibilities include technical operations, customer service, shipping and receiving, quality representatives, and drivers. This position includes direct interaction with customers, corporate personnel, and sales personnel.

Act independently to determine methods and procedures for new assignments and guide the activities of other employees. Work on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative in resolving problems and developing recommendations. Operations Managers have supervisors as direct reports, in addition to other non-exempt employees.


Position Responsibilities:

• Serve as a leader and set an example of embodying the principles of SIMCO's Mission in Service.
• Manage laboratory operations to budgeted financial objectives with Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibilities.
• Manage and control key variable expense accounts, technical staff, and administrative staff.
• Maintain appropriate levels of accreditation and scope as defined by management, including enhancement and expansion of the laboratory's scope of accreditation (UKAS, KEMA, ISO/IEC 17025 Quality System).
• Implement operational process efficiencies to reduce costs and provide technical support for sales and operational efforts.
• Manage laboratory service performance to corporate objectives.
• Assist technical staff in the analysis and resolution of complex problems commonly found in TMDE.
• Manage laboratory assets to maximize utilization and leverage of assets.
• Assess laboratory capabilities and identify opportunities to increase capabilities where relevant.
• Support the Regional Director/VP in key initiatives and projects.
• Recommend asset acquisitions with appropriate justification.
• Manage and motivate supervisors and other employees.
• Maintain strong working relationships with customers, corporate personnel, and sales personnel.

Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:

• 10+ years of experience in the Calibration and Repair industry.
• Formal experience in Physical/Dimensional calibration.
• Formal experience in RF/Microwave calibration.
• Formal experience with general test equipment calibration.
• Experience managing a technical service group within a relevant or comparable industry.
• 4+ years of experience as a section lead or supervisor.
• 2+ years of proven P&L management experience.
• Experience creating and managing laboratory budgets.
• Knowledge of MS Office applications.
• Ability to manage and motivate employees.
• Formal PMEL or equivalent technical training is highly desirable.
