Mechanic Trainee

The Mechanic Trainee is an entry level position responsible for assisting more experienced technicians on jobs involving servicing and repair of equipment. Trainees must be able to perform independently under close supervision. Examples of the types of machinery that the candidate must be able to evaluate, and repair include earth moving equipment, diesel engines, electric power generators, lift trucks, and allied products. Extensive on the job training, classroom instruction, and e-learning must be successfully completed to remain in the technician training program. The Mechanic Trainee will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for customer service, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner. The Mechanic Trainee will advance in classification as attitude, skill level, and job performance allows.

Essential Responsibilities & Expectations

• Performs basic safe machine operation & inspection
• Performs the following tasks on basic components in work area including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install, disassemble and reassemble, perform minor adjustments
• Possesses the ability to locate lubrication requirements and service machines in work area
• Works as helper in field service with experienced technician as required
• Follows 5-Star Contamination Control procedures
• Performs shop, yard, and job site clean-up as required
• Operates wash rack equipment and properly cleans equipment as required
• Creates comprehensive, timely, and accurate service reports.
• Keeps accurate records of all work

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or the equivalent
• Experience: Entry level
• Skills and Competencies: Basic technical skills, written communication skills, basic computing skills
• Job Training: Area specific technical training, OSHA & MSHA required training, vendor technical sites (info, Liftnet, SIMSi, etc.), compliance training

Safety Summary

• Working Conditions: Work is normally performed in a Service Department shop or on location of customer job sites. Exposure to physical risk and all-weather conditions is associated with this position. Standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time is often required
• Physical Requirements: Speaking, listening, writing, typing, reaching, kneeling, grasping, stooping, lifting up to 75 lbs., climbing on ladders, climbing on equipment, crawling under equipment
• Job Hazards: Tripping, slipping, falling, job site hazards, strains due to lifting, hand injuries, driving related hazards, equipment movement, overexertion due to stress and fatigue, repetitive hand motion (computer work), back and neck strain, stress, potential harm from operating office equipment
