Job Description

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Ensure safe and efficient transportation by coordinating trips, assisting drivers, and communicating with passengers. Manage multiple tasks concurrently, such as telephone inquiries, radio communications, driver information, and paratransit route planning. Play a vital role in maintaining a positive public image and fostering a respectful work environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintain regular communication w/Transit & Paratransit operators via radio and phone.
• Monitor all road operations, including service management, driver assignments, and incident or emergency response.
• Provide accurate and timely information to passengers and Operators
• Handle telephone inquiries, comments, complaints, and general information requests.
• Disseminate relevant information to appropriate departments and personnel.
• Perform occasional receptionist duties.
• Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation of daily activities.
• Perform routine data collection and data entry in paratransit dispatch software and other management systems.
• Coordinate paratransit routes and schedules based on client reservation requests.
• Utilize computer-aided software to establish paratransit routes and schedules.
• Review, organize, and maintain trip manifests to maximize route efficiency.
• Coordinate daily work and vehicles assignments for transit and paratransit operators.
• Monitor operators' fitness for duty.
• Ensure efficient utilization of personnel, facilities, paratransit and fixed route vehicles.
• Follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Jefferson Transit policies and procedures.
• Maintain a courteous, respectful, and professional demeanor always.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including providing relief coverage, assisting during peak work periods, and supporting workload balance across the department.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of public transit experience in operations or customer service, or two years of experience in a related field involving public contact and/or vehicle coordination.
• Knowledge of customer assistance practices and public transit operations is sufficient to accurately perform the full scope of responsibilities described above.
• Familiar with Jefferson County geography, including major streets, roads and local landmarks.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure; to quickly gather essential information quickly and communicate clearly with management operators, and the public.
• Ability to remain professional, calm, and courteous when interacting with irate, upset or distressed customers and to work effectively with staff during challenging situations.
• Demonstrate proficiency in two-way radio communication, computer software systems, basic mathematical skills, and map reading abilities.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Part- or full-time shift with potential for non-traditional hours. The dispatch office has coverage from 4:30 AM until 8:44 PM, Monday through Friday and 6:00 AM until 8:44 PM on Saturday. Our office is closed on Sunday; however, Jefferson Transit operates Sunday service as part of a pilot program. Sunday work will be part of this role can have a rotating schedule and has the potential to be long-term.

This is a Union position. Wage and benefits are per the labor agreement. This is a non-exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Employees accrue general leave and sick leave in accordance with CBA policy. Benefits become effective following completion of the first full month of employment and include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement benefits. Additional supplemental benefits may be available at the employee's expense.
