Overview The City of Kodiak is recruiting for a full-time Heavy Fleet Mechanic in the Public Works Department. The Department is looking for an experienced team player that has a desire to be a part of a progressive Public Works Department working hard to serve the needs of our community. Responsibilities Under general supervision, perform a variety of specialized and journey level duties involved in repairing and maintaining mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on light and heavy gasoline and diesel vehicles, emergency response vehicles/equipment, trucks, and equipment; inspect, diagnose, overhauls, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, and related vehicle systems and components; service and perform preventive maintenance duties; conduct safety inspections; and maintain records and reports. Ensure work reflects positively on the City and the Department through professional workmanship and responsible maintenance practices. Qualifications High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) and one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school and four years of automotive, diesel and heavy equipment repair experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job. Licensing Requirements Valid Alaska Drivers License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B within six months of hire First Aid/CPR Certification Licensing Preferred Valid Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) certifications Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A EEO Employer #J-18808-Ljbffr Kodiak
