About The Role

The Chief Executive Officer leads Women4Change Indiana, a nonpartisan, statewide nonprofit C3/C4 organization whose mission is to equip Hoosiers to engage in democracy to improve outcomes for women through community-building and advocacy.

This role works in close partnership with a Board of Directors and wears many hats – strategic, operational, financial, and programmatic – to advance the organization’s mission, ensuring alignment between long-term vision, programmatic impact, and organizational sustainability. This leader is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and leading a small, dedicated staff, fostering a culture grounded in equity and inclusion and reflecting the organization’s values.

As Women4Change's primary public representative, the CEO elevates organizational visibility across Indiana, engages stakeholders, strengthens partnerships, and positions the organization as a trusted voice on issues affecting women, their families, and their communities. With strong business judgment, the CEO aligns financial resources with strategic priorities, ensuring both mission impact and long-term viability. Working with the Board, staff, and key stakeholders, the CEO implements Women4Change's strategic priorities, evaluates outcomes, and adapts to evolving opportunities and challenges.

What You'll Do

Strategic Leadership and Organizational Vision

In partnership with the Board of Directors, the CEO helps to define and advance a clear, compelling vision for Women4Change that reflects its mission and values. This leader develops and executes strategic plans, establishes measurable goals, and ensures accountability through regular evaluation and reporting. The CEO drives organizational growth by securing funding and increasing organizational visibility and engagement, while balancing mission impact with financial sustainability.

Resource Development and Financial Stewardship

The CEO executes comprehensive fundraising efforts, expanding and diversifying revenue across individual, corporate, and foundation sources. This includes cultivating major donors, strengthening existing relationships, and identifying new funding opportunities. The CEO ensures sound financial management, oversees budgeting processes, and aligns resources with strategic priorities to support long-term organizational health.

External Leadership and Partnerships

Serving as the primary spokesperson, the CEO represents Women4Change with credibility, vision, and clarity across public, private, and civic sectors. This leader builds and sustains strategic partnerships, engages policymakers and community leaders, and fosters coalitions that advance shared goals. The CEO strengthens the organization’s brand and visibility through effective communication, public engagement, and media presence.

Advocacy and Policy Leadership

Women4Change operates through a dual-entity structure that includes both a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and a 501(c)(4) action fund. This structure enables the organization to advance its mission through education, research, and community engagement, while also supporting advocacy and policy efforts that drive systemic change, inform, mobilize, and empower stakeholders, and maintain compliance with applicable nonprofit regulations. The CEO ensures that advocacy efforts are strategic, collaborative, and responsive to the needs of women across Indiana.

Board Relations and Governance

The CEO partners closely with the Board of Directors to support strong governance practices. This includes facilitating effective communication, providing strategic guidance, and ensuring the Board has the information and resources needed to fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities. The CEO supports Board development, engagement, and alignment with organizational priorities.

Organizational Leadership and Culture

The CEO recruits, develops, and retains a talented and diverse team, fostering a workplace culture rooted in respect, accountability, and inclusion. This leader sets clear expectations, supports professional growth, and ensures that staff are empowered to achieve organizational goals. The CEO promotes collaboration, innovation, and shared ownership of the mission.

What the Next CEO Will Be Asked to Build

Based on the transition process, the board has identified the following as the highest-priority areas for the incoming CEO to address in their first 18 months:

• Operational Infrastructure - Complete the modernization of internal systems, documentation, and workflows to match the organization's external reputation
• CRM & Data Management - Lead or oversee resolution of the EveryAction database challenges; manual workarounds are not sustainable. Consider forming a technology task force.
• Fundraising Diversification - Move beyond reliance on a small number of donors and grants; build an annual giving program and cultivate a broader individual donor base
• Governing Board Transition - Complete the shift from working board to governing board, with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and committee structure between board, CEO, and staff
• Statewide Expansion - Deepen reach beyond the Indianapolis metro through local ambassador models, listening sessions, and coalition partnerships
• C3/C4 Clarity - Establish clear structures and resource allocation between the two entities, particularly as staff time is split across both
  

What You'll Bring

• Leadership experience in nonprofit, public, or private sector organizations
• Demonstrated success in strategic planning, organizational sustainability, and operational leadership
• Proven fundraising experience, including major gifts and institutional funding
• Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and resource allocation
• Experience working with or supporting governing boards
• Ability to build partnerships across community, business, and government sectors
• Strong communication and public engagement skills
• Understanding of policy, advocacy, and civic engagement landscapes
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaborative leadership
• Experience in statewide or multi-regional organizations preferred
  

This position requires a high level of engagement, visibility, and commitment to advancing Women4Change's mission across Indiana. You are expected to work in downtown Indianapolis three days per week. This role also requires frequent evening and weekend presence at events across the state.

What We Offer

The salary range for this position will be commensurate with experience. We offer an annual benefits allowance to cover health insurance. Women4Change observes ten paid holidays each year and offers paid time off and sick leave.

This leader will deepen strategic partnerships, expand our diversified funding model, and lead fund development, growing and stewarding a broad donor base, and aligning resources to ensure the organization’s capacity, sustainability, and agility in critical moments shaping Indiana’s civic and policy landscape.
