Job Profile Job Title: Equipment Operator, Construction Department: Construction Reports To: VP Construction Employment Status: Full-time (Non-Exempt) Primary Location: Cincinnati, OH Compensation: $27.00 - $42.00 (salary determined by skills, experience, and equity considerations) Job Responsibilities Communication with the PMs, foreman, crew leaders, and labor Operate various tamping machines as per specifications Inspect equipment, perform everyday maintenance and fill out inspection sheets Loading and unloading jobsite materials Maintain a neat and clean work area Inspect and operate hand tools for various activities Operate (but not limited to) track-hoe, back-hoe, mini excavator, skid steer, dozer, and haul trucks Excavate and backfill trenches for proposed underground utilities in a safe manner Operate around live utilities in a safe and cautious manner Work with hand signals from the labor Know shoring systems and how to use them Rigging and setting of structures Assist in other activities such as placement of conduit in open trenches, proofing conduits, potholing existing utilities, forming and pouring of concrete, placement of asphalt Maintain safety of company vehicles and ensure optimal utilization Ensure compliance with customer requirements and completed activities Observe and promote safety compliance Complete 20 hours of OVE required safety training annually Participate in random drug screenings Report injuries and other accidents to foreman and/or PM Ensure the site is clean and organized at the end of each shift Coordinate daily tasks according to specs and plans Perform scope of work and recognize work done outside of the scope Emphasize safe use of tools and equipment Required Skills & Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of experience operating equipment for underground utility construction Ability to work with and assist crew in hoisting material, structures, tools, equipment, and related work Experience and knowledge of basic shoring methods Customer service skills to communicate with inspectors, crew, and administration to develop a positive working relationship Speaking skills for providing clear orders to employees as needed Technical skills for interpreting construction methods, specifications, and drawings History of working successfully with a team to complete a common goal, ‘team player’ Time management skills to meet deadlines Writing skills to document everyday reporting Knowledge and experience in reading and understanding blueprints In-depth knowledge of OSHA guidelines, equipment, and construction procedures High school or equivalent education Valid driver’s license with a good driving record Subject to pre‑employment drug test and MVR Ability to follow instruction Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with the crew, leadership, and clients Ability to lift up to 75 pounds Excellent vision, possibly using prescription lenses Exceptional manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods in unfavorable weather conditions Desired Skills & Qualifications Provide suggestions for continued improvement Minimum of 5 years operating equipment Experience excavating around live utilities CDL driver’s license Computer skills OSHA 30 and trench/excavation safety training/competent person training Benefits Competitive compensation and benefits package (includes health care benefits, paid time off, 401K, and more) Annual safety boot program of up to $150 per eligible field employee Field safety reward points redeemable in our online store Paid training opportunities (safety, technical, and professional) Companywide employee recognition and rewards program Ongoing engagement opportunities through surveys, focus groups, company meetings, and leadership access The Fine Print We will determine salary based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to employees in similar roles.
