East Bay Agency for Children’s (EBAC) mission is to improve the well-being of children, youth, and families by reducing the impact of trauma and social inequities. EBAC was established in 1952 when a group of parents of children with special needs wanted to give their children the same educational and recreational opportunities that contribute to the physical well-being and social growth of all children. From this was born the first day-treatment program west of the Mississippi and was the foundation of growth in meeting the needs of children and families living in Alameda County.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Early Intervention Coach (EIC) provides individual and group treatment activities for children ages 3-5 years within a short term intensive mental health treatment and intervention cohort program. The EIC will collaborate with the transdisciplinary EPIC team, with parents and external partners including the participants preschool staff to identify social-emotional learning needs and develop a plan for reintegration back into the preschool setting.

QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCY FACTORS

1. Bilingual (English/Spanish) Required.
2. Provide an active Wellness Coach Certification upon hire and/or provide pre-applicant requirements for Community Health Worker (CHW) and/or Certified Wellness Coach (CWC) credentialing within 60 days of employment.
3. Baccalaureate Degree in a Human Services discipline (social work, sociology, psychology, education, child development, etc.) desirable .
4. Previous experience in milieu treatment or classroom education setting highly desirable.
5. Previous experience working with parents/caregivers highly desirable.
6. Skills in arts, crafts, music, sports, and games highly desirable.
7. Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team.
8. Ability to drive pre-school students if special circumstances permit and provide a clean DMV report and insurance required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide trauma informed therapeutic inventions, behavior coaching, and crisis support; including the use of physical intervention as necessary.
2. Assist children in the management of disruptive and potentially assaultive behaviors.
3. Plan curriculum and prepare educational and therapeutic activities based on children’s interests and social/emotional needs.
4. Lead enrichment activities and circle time; support children during outdoor recreational periods and quiet time.
5. Work with caregivers, teachers and other natural supports to support the integration of skills learned in the program to home and school settings.
6. Record progress notes and other charting requirements as necessary in a timely manner.
7. Participate in staff meetings; trainings; and treatment planning and clinical reviews.
8. Consult with Program Director, Clinicians, and classroom staff on individual children’s progress.
9. Utilize assessments tools, such as ASQ and ASQ-SE to evaluate children’s needs.
10. Lead client review meetings and develop supportive relationships with caregivers.
11. Participate in overall program development and evaluation as member of pilot program treatment team.
12. Periodic driving to and from site to meet with teachers.
13. Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS and JOB SETTING

1. Work is primarily in office, classroom, and an enclosed outdoor play yard setting.
2. Because work is directly with small children, full mobility is required for standing, walking, sitting, using hands, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
3. Periodic lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
4. Noise levels may be high at times.
5. Must complete nonviolent crisis intervention training.
