Essential Functions Student leadership, employability skills and project‑based learning are an integral part of the program and will be incorporated into the curriculum and extended beyond the school day. Teacher responsibilities include: Implement the Nursing/Patient Care curriculum and evaluate daily instruction units to reflect current clinical methods and practices. Supervise students at clinical worksites. Evaluate student classroom and clinical experiences, maintain appropriate student records and report student progress to appropriate personnel. Upon program completion, administer Certified Nursing Assistant Skill Testing, score and submit all paperwork to the Department of Health for certification. Collaborate with post‑secondary education to provide dual credit opportunities for students. Promote integration of academic skills and specific CCTE curriculum for relevant career preparation. Participate in staff development activities to enhance academic integration. Work collaboratively and collegially with a team of teachers to develop an integrated curriculum. Integrate leadership and employability skills into curriculum; promote student membership in leadership organization. Work effectively and cooperatively with community, parents, teachers, administrators and support staff. Maintain a positive learning environment; safe and pleasant classroom atmosphere and effective classroom management and discipline procedures while maintaining good instructor/student communication and rapport. Use instructional technology in the delivery of curriculum. Organize, manage, and appropriately maintain the instructional facility, equipment and resources which will serve as a positive model to students and provide a safe working environment. Market and promote CCTE classes. Develop quality work‑based learning opportunities for students. Possess and maintain a working knowledge of industry expectations for curriculum and equipment. Compile data required for CCTE district and state reports. Train students in BLS certification. Maintain current first‑aid/CPR card. Participate in a minimum of three program advisory committee meetings per school year. Participate in mandatory CCTE district Professional Learning Community sessions and Professional Development. Serve as an advisor for a College, Career and Technical student organization (CTSO) or equivalent. Effectively present and teach nursing and related patient care and health career skills. Work with nursing in a supervisory or instruction environment. Hold a current Basic Life Support Certification and Certification as Trainer or willingness to obtain Trainer certification. Qualifications Hold a current WA State Registered Nurse (RN) certification. Hold or qualify for a valid Washington State Career and Technical Education Teacher Certification in Worksite Learning. Hold or qualify for a valid Washington State Career and Technical Education Teaching Certificate. 6,000 hours of work experience as RN. Completion of alternative certification program (8 classes) in two years. Qualify for a Type II Driver’s License. Industry (non‑teaching) hours. Minimum of three years’ experience (6,000 hours) as RN. Minimum of one year experience within the past three years in caring for elderly or chronically ill of any age or both. Completed or willingness to complete all CCTE required coursework for certification. Complete the courses to teach the required units of the certified nursing assistant program curriculum within the first year of being hired (if needed). Complete the required Department of Health courses to administer student skill tests for their CNA certificate upon earning their program completion certificate within the first year of being hired (if needed). Demonstrated ability to function as a collaborative team member. Demonstrated ability to partner with the community and facilitate an industry‑specific advisory committee. Demonstrated ability to extend instruction beyond the classroom into the community. Demonstrated ability to relate to and empathize with young people. Demonstrated ability to incorporate Washington Career and Technical Education Program Standards and Academic State Standards into curriculum. Commitment to continuous technical and professional upgrading through classes, workshops, seminars, conference participation and summer industry employment (40 hours every 5 years). Demonstrated ability to collaborate with post‑secondary partners to develop dual credit opportunities for high school students. Prior teaching and/or supervisory experience preferred.
