At MD Anderson Cancer Center, you'll be part of one of the nation's leading cancer centers, where every role directly impacts patient care. As a Patient Services Coordinator in the Operating Room, you'll play a critical role supporting the daily operations of one of the busiest surgical environments in the institution. Working alongside physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams, you'll help coordinate surgical operations, facilitate communication, and ensure timely support for patient care in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Our Main Operating Room supports up to 44 operating rooms, making teamwork, organization, communication, and attention to detail essential to success. Working Hours

Regular Schedule: Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Training Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM

Training Duration: Approximately 8-10 weeks.

Position is fully onsite.

Rotating Saturday coverage (6:30 AM - 3:00 PM) is required based on departmental needs.

What You'll Do

• Support operations at the OR control desk, including managing the on-call schedule for OR staff
• Coordinate communication between physicians, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams throughout the surgical day.
• Manage incoming calls, gather critical information, and appropriately escalate urgent situations to the Charge Nurse.
• Assist with coordinating and accurately posting emergency and add-on surgical cases while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
• Maintain and update schedules within Epic to support efficient operating room workflows.
• Manage and communicate updates to the on-call schedule.
• Send timely email notifications regarding after-hours schedule changes and operational updates.
• Support administrative functions that contribute to safe, efficient patient care.
• Maintain confidentiality while providing exceptional customer service to patients, families, physicians, and staff.
• Perform additional administrative duties as assigned.
• Order patient supplies for post-operative care.

Ideal Candidate

• Previous hospital or operating room experience preferred.
• Experience working in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Epic proficiency preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook and Excel.
• Excellent administrative and organizational abilities.
• Strong, professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail.
• Ability to recognize urgency and appropriately escalate critical situations.
• Comfortable receiving constructive feedback and adapting to changing priorities.
• Ability to remain calm and professional during high-pressure situations.
• Professional communication via phone, in-person and email when communicating with multiple stakeholders
• Willingness to participate in orientation experiences within the operating room environment and be comfortable with exposure to clinical procedures.

Education

• Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Preferred: Associate's Degree

Work Experience

• Required: 3 years Relevant work experience. or
• Additional education may be substituted for required experience on a one-to-one basis.

Other requirements: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
