Job Description We have an opening for an Application Infrastructure Engineer . You will play a key role in ensuring reliability and performance across our application infrastructure services that support hundreds of enterprise applications for LLNL. This position is in the Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) Division within the Computing Directorate, is support of the LivIT program. In this role you will have a hybrid schedule, blending in‑person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week. You will Support PingFederate implementation by performing patching, maintenance, and troubleshooting authentication issues. Support AppManager instance, working closely with development staff who leverage AppManager for batch jobs and automation. Provide operational support for Enterprise Application, Kubernetes, Docker, and related technologies, such as ingress controllers, load balancers, and API gateways, to meet negotiated Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Collaborate with cross‐functional teams, including developers, IT managers, systems and database administrators, and security personnel, to design and deliver robust, secure, and scalable application infrastructures. Manage the full lifecycle of Enterprise application, including capacity planning, upgrades, documentation, standards enforcement, security compliance, vulnerability remediation, and performance monitoring. Implement and enforce security best practices within container environments, including RBAC, secrets management, network policies, vulnerability scanning, and DevSecOps principles. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q‑level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience. Significant hands‑on experience managing and operating application infrastructure and Kubernetes clusters in production environments. Advanced experience managing and administering Ping Federate. Advanced experience implementing, managing, and supporting applications and cloud service infrastructures, including monitoring, security, and lifecycle management, across 2 or more of the following technologies: Java Play, Oracle WebLogic, Apache, Tomcat, IIS, load balancers, API gateways, Kubernetes, and various enterprise COTS solutions. Significant experience with systems programming and/or automation tools, such as Python, Bash, Go, Terraform, Ansible, and Helm, to create, configure, monitor, and automate the management of Kubernetes and application infrastructures, including O/S administration, configuration management, CI/CD deployments, or security administration. Advanced experience with major cloud platforms and their managed Kubernetes services, such as AWS EKS, GCP GKE, Azure AKS. Advanced troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis skills for complex distributed systems. Advanced communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to effectively work across cross–functional teams. Qualifications We Desire Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems. Experience leveraging Splunk or equivalent SIEM environment to operationally manage application infrastructure services. Experience working in a compliance‑driven and secure environment, as well as project management experience with large, enterprise commercial off‑the‑shelf (COTS) application implementations. Pay Range $175,530 ‑ $222,564 Annually This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage.
