Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU

Location & Shift MMH-71 Haynes Street (10627) Shift: 3p–11p Position Summary Utilizing the nursing process, provides high quality direct and indirect patient-centered care. Coordinates patient care by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Communicates the patient's clinical condition and responds quickly to changes. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles and provides age-appropriate care. Promotes nursing profession through collegial support. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager. Competencies Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing. Basic computer skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform population-specific comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of the patient’s condition and care needs including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects. Assess and reassess pain; utilize appropriate pain management tools and techniques; educate patient and family regarding pain management. Document assessments, interventions, and evaluations of effectiveness. Develop and revise individualized plans of care as indicated by assessment and patient response, collaborating with other disciplines as needed. Follow the five medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors; demonstrate knowledge of medications and correct administration based on age and clinical condition. Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes positive outcomes. Document the nursing process and responses to care in a timely manner using appropriate tools. Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stressful situations. Utilize critical thinking and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation. Formulate and implement a teaching plan for patients and families based on identified learning needs; evaluate effectiveness of learning. Demonstrate autonomous practice consistent with evidence-based standards. Pursue personal and professional growth and development. Serve as a professional role model and mentor. Assist physicians with peri-anesthesia procedures including cardioversion, insertion of peripheral and central monitoring lines, and epidural catheter placement. Demonstrate knowledge of airway management and appropriate equipment. Assess cardiopulmonary systems for changes and provide appropriate treatment. Demonstrate knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions, and side effects. Provide accurate and pertinent reports of patient condition for safe transfer of care. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with a current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut. Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support upon hire (or within the new employee orientation period) and maintain clinical competency.
