Respiratory Therapist - Baptist NICU (Nights)

Job Overview This job provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support services to both in‑patients and out‑patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric. The RT‑CRT set‑ups monitor and weans oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation, draws, analyzes, and reports arterial blood gases and ECGs, delivers intermittent therapy, assists with changing artificial airways, and provides services as ordered by a physician and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Up to 25K sign‑on bonus! Education Required: Associate's Degree Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Work Experience Required: None. Certifications Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 90 days of hire Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and information retrieval Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and professionally Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and role‑specific software packages Strong interpersonal skills Job Duties Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policy and procedure Review and document all clinical information for each patient Educate patients and co‑workers on procedures and treatment plans Perform diagnostic procedures Provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the patient’s age in the assigned area Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including privacy, introduction style, explanation of services, requesting permissions, and communication style Physical and Environmental Demands Very heavy work: occasional exertion over 100 pounds of force, frequent over 50 pounds, or constant over 20 pounds to move objects Must be able to stoop, bend, reach, and grab with manual dexterity Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including 24/7, weekend, holiday, and on‑call availability Exposure to blood, body fluid, tissue, communicable diseases, hazardous medications, and hazardous waste is possible Ochsner Health is an equal opportunity employer.
