Assistant/Associate Extension Agent (Livestock/Forage)

Position Overview Assistant/Associate Extension Agent (Livestock/Forage) – Faculty, Academic Pay Grade Work location: 0101 Tangipahoa Parish Extension Office, Amite, Louisiana. The primary service area is Tangipahoa Parish, with additional responsibilities in St.Tammany and Washington Parishes. Responsibilities Serve as the primary point of contact for livestock and forage production stakeholders in the assigned parishes. Develop, implement, and evaluate extension programming through on‑farm visits, area‑wide demonstrations, workshops, field days, and other educational meetings. Establish advisory committees to identify client needs and to guide program development. Generate and disseminate research‑based information via newsletters, factsheets, social media, newspapers, and other media. Maintain and update web pages for the assigned parishes and assist with pesticide re‑certification training. Participate in agricultural organizations such as the Cattlemen’s Association and Farm Bureau groups. Collaborate with other Extension faculty, regional, and state partners, and perform additional duties as directed by the parish chair and regional director. Travel overnight and work evenings or weekends as required to meet client needs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in education, vocational education, agricultural sciences, family and consumer sciences/human ecology, biological or social sciences, recreation and leisure studies, or a closely related field. Undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5 (4.0 scale); for graduate work, GPA of at least 3.0 or current GPA of at least 3.0 on at least 12 graduate credit hours. Desired: Master’s degree in one of the above fields. Effective oral and written communication skills. Experience in recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers and in teaching leadership principles to youth and adults. Knowledge of public relations and adaptability to change. Ability to work with and through others and to function with minimal supervision. Salary and Benefits Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Faculty members without a related master’s degree must complete an additional 12 hours of related graduate coursework (or substitute agent experience) before promotion to associate agent, within the first seven years of employment.
