Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

About the Role We need a certified Physician Assistant & or Nurse Practitioner in Addiction Medicine. New graduates are welcome and will receive addiction medicine specialty training. The role is full‑time, clinic‑based in Grand Junction, Colorado, with patient visits performed in clinic and via telehealth. You will treat patients with alcohol, opioid, stimulant, benzodiazepine, and other substance use disorders. No prior addiction medicine experience required. Experience in emergency, primary care, or psychiatry is helpful. You must have a strong desire to help underserved populations and be willing to learn new concepts. The ability to administer intramuscular medication via injection is required. Key Responsibilities Patient Care: Provide clinical assessment, diagnosis and ongoing management of patients seeking medication‑assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid or alcohol use disorder. Medication Management: Prescribe and monitor MAT medications (oral and injectable buprenorphine and naltrexone), ensuring appropriate dosing, adherence and monitoring for potential side effects. Comprehensive Assessments: Conduct thorough medical histories, physical examinations and diagnostic evaluations to assess patient needs and treatment progress. Collaborative Care: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team (physicians, counselors, peer workers and other providers) to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Patient Education: Educate patients on substance use disorder and the MAT process, and counsel on lifestyle changes, coping mechanisms and return‑to‑use prevention. Follow‑Up Care: Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans as needed and coordinate care for comorbid conditions. Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely electronic health records for all encounters, treatment plans and medication management. Compliance & Regulations: Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, including MAT guidelines, HIPAA and documentation of controlled substances. Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques when necessary, ensuring patient and staff safety. Quality Improvement: Participate in continuous quality improvement activities to enhance patient care outcomes and clinic operations. Qualifications Education: Master’s or Doctoral degree in nursing (APRN), physician assistant or other related field. Licensing & Certification: Active, unrestricted state license as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Active DEA registration. Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience, with at least 6 months in addiction medicine, specifically in MAT clinics. Training & Knowledge: In‑depth knowledge of MAT protocols, medications and treatment for opioid, stimulant, benzodiazepine and alcohol use disorders. Experience with behavioral health and counseling approaches is a plus. Skills: Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment. Exceptional communication skills, building rapport with patients and collaborating with healthcare teams. Understanding of regulatory compliance and documentation requirements in MAT settings. Job Type Full Time. Standard shift, Monday‑Friday 8:30‑4:30 PM, rotational Saturday. Pay $115,000 - $125,000. Base salary depends on education, experience, location, skills and internal equity.
