Certified Medical Assistant

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a Certified Medical Assistant to support patient care within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. Responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining vitals, assisting with exams and procedures, administering medications per protocol, coordinating lab tests, managing documentation in the EHR, and supporting patient education and follow-up. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, collaborative, and committed to high-quality, culturally competent care. Greet and prepare patients for examinations, obtaining and documenting accurate vital signs, medical history, and chief concerns in the EHR. Assist providers during examinations and minor procedures, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and adherence to clinical protocols. Perform clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, specimen collection, EKGs, point-of-care testing, and vaccine administration according to MUSC policies and scope of practice. Maintain exam rooms and clinical areas, ensuring they are clean, stocked, and compliant with infection control and safety standards. Coordinate patient flow by scheduling, confirming, and following up on appointments, tests, referrals, and procedures to optimize clinic efficiency. Accurately document care, treatments, and patient interactions in the electronic health record while maintaining strict HIPAA and privacy compliance. Provide patient education on visit instructions, medications, follow-up care, and available MUSC resources in a clear and compassionate manner. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to support high-quality, patient-centered care in an academic medical environment. Assist with front-office tasks such as check-in, check-out, insurance verification, and collection of co-pays as needed. Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and training activities that support MUSC’s mission of innovation, education, and community engagement.
