Rainier Welding, an AISC certified steel fabrication business since 1975, is seeking Welders and Fitters to join our Anacortes, Washington steel fabrication team. Successful candidates will have safety as their # 1 priority as well as previous experience with heavy steel fabrication.

Job Title: Welder/Fitter

Position Summary

This position is responsible for fitting, welding, and assembling structural steel components in accordance with shop drawings, work orders, and company quality standards. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and productivity in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret structural steel blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders

• Lay out, fit, and assemble structural steel components

• Set up materials and equipment for welding operations (FCAW)

• Perform tack welding and final welding of structural components

• Operate fabrication machinery and equipment as assigned

• Perform measurements using both standard and metric systems

• Inspect work for accuracy and quality prior to completion

• Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment

• Move raw materials and finished products safely throughout the shop

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory personnel

Essential Functions

• Verify equipment is in proper working condition prior to use

• Review work orders and confirm materials and specifications

• Accurately measure, mark, and position materials

• Perform basic math functions including fractions and metric conversions

• Always follow all company safety policies and procedures

• Work collaboratively with team members to meet production goals

Minimum Qualifications

• AWS and/or WABO Welding Certification (preferred or required based on role)

• Demonstrated experience in structural steel fabrication

• Blueprint reading experience required

• Ability to read a tape measure and perform layout work accurately

• Basic math skills (standard and metric systems)

• Ability to follow directions and work under supervision

• Reliable attendance and punctuality

• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time

• Frequent use of hands, arms, and manual dexterity

• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as needed

• Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds

• Ability to maintain balance and work safely in an active shop environment

• Visual ability including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment

Work Environment

• Structural steel fabrication shop with elevated noise levels

• Exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment

• Indoor and outdoor working conditions depending on workload

• Safety-sensitive environment requiring full attention and situational awareness

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening

• Criminal background check

• Ability to meet physical demands of the position

• Weld Test Requirement:
  - Candidates must complete an on-site AWS FCAW weld test in both vertical and overhead positions using .052 wire.

Compensation

Pay is determined based on verified experience, skill level, certifications, and demonstrated ability.
