JMAR TRUCKING AND EXCAVATING INC ## JOB DESCRIPTION DUMP TRUCK DRIVER Job Title: Dump Truck Driver Department: Trucking / Construction Operations Reports To: Operations Management Employment Type: Full-Time Location: Southwest Virginia / Local and Regional Construction Projects ### POSITION SUMMARY JMAR Trucking and Excavating INC is seeking responsible, reliable, experienced and safety-minded Dump Truck Drivers to join our team. The Dump Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating company dump trucks to transport dirt, stone, gravel, asphalt, and other construction materials to and from jobsites. Drivers will work closely with project supervisors, equipment operators, and other members of the JMAR team to keep construction projects moving efficiently. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, maintains their equipment, follows safety procedures, and understands the importance of being dependable and on time. ### ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Safely operate dump trucks on highways, local roads, and construction jobsites. - Haul dirt, rock, stone, gravel, asphalt, and other construction materials. - Load and unload materials safely and efficiently. - Follow assigned routes and jobsite instructions. - Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections. - Check tires, lights, brakes, fluids, tarp systems, hydraulics, and other equipment components. - Report mechanical problems, damage, or safety concerns to management promptly. - Keep the truck clean and properly maintained. - Secure loads and operate tarping systems as required. - Follow all applicable DOT, OSHA, company, and jobsite safety requirements. - Follow proper procedures when entering and leaving construction zones. - Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, supervisors, and coworkers. - Maintain accurate records, including required paperwork, tickets, loads, and hours. - Operate safely around excavators, dozers, loaders, paving equipment, workers, and other vehicles. - Assist with general jobsite duties when reasonably required. - Maintain a professional attitude and represent JMAR Trucking and Excavating INC positively. - Perform other duties related to trucking and construction operations as assigned. ### SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES Safety is a fundamental responsibility of every JMAR employee. Drivers are expected to: - Follow all company safety policies. - Obey traffic laws and posted speed limits. - Practice defensive driving. - Maintain awareness of workers and equipment around the truck. - Never operate a vehicle while impaired. - Properly use required personal protective equipment. - Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, incidents, or equipment problems. - Follow all applicable DOT requirements. - Exercise additional caution when working in highway construction zones. Slow down. Eyes aware. Safety first. ### QUALIFICATIONS Required: - Valid Commercial Driver's License appropriate for the assigned vehicle. - Acceptable driving record. - Ability to safely operate a dump truck. - Ability to pass required pre-employment screening. - Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. - Dependable attendance and punctuality. - Ability to work safely in changing weather and construction conditions. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred: - Previous dump truck driving experience. - Experience hauling construction materials. - Experience working around heavy construction equipment. - Familiarity with construction jobsites. - Knowledge of basic truck maintenance and inspections. - Experience working on highway construction projects. ### PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The position may require the employee to: - Sit and op rate a commercial vehicle for extended periods. - Enter and exit the truck repeatedly. - Climb steps and access the truck bed and related equipment. - Inspect vehicles and equipment. - Perform basic physical tasks associated with truck operation and jobsite work. - Work outdoors in hot, cold, rainy, dusty, and other changing weather conditions. - Safely perform the essential functions of the position. ### WORK ENVIRONMENT Dump Truck Drivers may work on: - Highway construction projects - Excavation projects - Site-development projects - Paving projects - Material yards - Construction jobsites - Public roads and highways Drivers should expect an active work environment with heavy equipment, changing traffic patterns, construction hazards, dust, noise, weather conditions, and changing jobsite conditions. ### EMPLOYEE EXPECTATIONS JMAR expects every driver to demonstrate: Reliability Show up ready to work and be dependable.
