Athletic Trainer And Medical Science Teacher

2026 - 2027 School Year

1.2 FTE

This position will be .6 FTE Athletic Trainer and.6 FTE Medical Science Teacher. A contract will be issued for 1.0 FTE and a.2 FTE supplemental contract will be issued for the remaining FTE.

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 05/21/2026.

This is a Continuing Position

Evergreen Public Schools (EPS) offers the following to eligible employees who work at least 630 hours in a school year:

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic long-term disability, basic life and AD&D insurance through School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB)
  • Employees may also be eligible to participate in FSA, DCAP, HSA, FPFSA (w/HDHP), and other supplemental benefits.

Employees may be eligible for employer-employee funded retirement benefits through Department of Retirement Services (DRS).

EPS offers paid holidays and paid time off, including but not limited to, sick, vacation, personal, religious, and bereavement leave. Additional negotiated leave options can be found in the associated Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for this position Evergreen Education Association.

Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary schedule such as, but not limited to TRI pay, In-Service days, and Extended Contracts, all in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) as negotiated.

Reports To: Building Principal

Summary Statement:

Working with industry-related advisory committee, develop and teach a sequence of courses in a program designed to help students develop academic, work readiness and technical skills needed to enter a content-specific workplace or to articulate to post-secondary training content area. Requires ability to teach a sequence of Medical Science courses within one of the following healthcare strands: therapeutic, diagnostic, biotechnology, or biomedical sciences. Curriculum areas include: Medical Science, Anatomy and Physiology, and Sports Medicine.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for prevention, emergency care, first aid, evaluation and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes under his/her care.
  • Organize and operate the athletic training room.
  • Serve as a liaison between the team physician, the athlete, the athlete's parents, and coaching staff.
  • Consultant to coaching staff on conditioning, nutrition, and protective equipment.
  • Assist with prevention of injuries including education for athletes and PE students, identifying factors that put athletes "at risk" correcting deficiencies in athletes as deemed necessary, as well as taping and bracing.
  • Provide emergency care and first aid including availability of necessary equipment, communication procedures for emergency situations, and prompt accurate triage.
  • Evaluate acute and chronic injuries and refer to the team physician or specialist where appropriate.
  • Coordinate with appropriate team and any involved medical specialists to determine player return to competition status following an injury.
  • Treat athletic injuries with appropriate and available modalities.
  • Develop, supervise, evaluate, and modify individual exercise programs for rehabilitation to help athletes return to a pre-injury status.
  • Cover team practices allowing access to the athletic training room.
  • Cover sporting events as scheduled with the building Athletic Director and/or the District Athletic Director.
  • Make the training room facilities and medical attention available to school athletes with arrangements made by the coach and the Athletic Director.
  • In conjunction with school district personnel, develop/maintain the Athletic Trainer program for the school.
  • Provide athletic trainer coverage at home and away interscholastic athletic events.
  • Initiate and administer first aid to athletes in accordance with specific school guidelines and state law.
  • Maintain adequate records on all injuries and rehabilitative procedures.
  • Demonstrates a clear knowledge and understanding of physical therapy treatment/techniques.
  • Conduct and evaluate head/injury/concussion pre-screening, recovery protocol, and return-to play status.
  • Processes and submits records including injury reports, home care instructions, referrals, treatment records, etc.
  • Provide training in BLS (Basic Life Support) CPR to students.
  • Promote integration of academic skills and specific CCTE curriculum for relevant career preparation.
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with a team of teachers to develop an integrated curriculum.
  • Integrate leadership and employability skills into curriculum; promote student membership in leadership organization.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment; safe and pleasant classroom atmosphere and effective classroom management and discipline procedures while maintaining good instructor/student communication and rapport.
  • Organize, manage, and appropriately maintain the instructional facility, equipment and resources which will serve as a positive model to students and provide a safe working environment.
  • Market and promote CCTE classes.
  • Possess and maintain a working knowledge of industry expectations for curriculum and equipment.
  • Develop cultural competence and a commitment to equity in outcomes and opportunities for adults and students.

  3. Publicly draws attention to all equity gaps that exist for various groups of students with plans to address their elimination.

Qualifications:

  • Must qualify for or hold a valid Washington State Career and Technical Education Teacher Certification in one of the following medical strands: Therapeutic Services, Diagnostic Services, Biotechnology, or Biomedical Sciences.
  • Must qualify for or hold a valid Washington State Career and Technical Education Teacher Certification in Worksite Learning.
  • Currently hold Certified Athletic Trainer Certification (NATA-BOC) required.
  • Must hold Washington State Certified Athletic Training license.
  • Must hold first aid/CPR certification.
  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment.
  • Must have regular, consistent attendance.
  • Must be willing to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the designated grade level preferred, and a willingness and ability to utilize a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum integration and a commitment to improve and refine instructional and management skills by participating in professional development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technology and an ability to incorporate into instructional programs.
  • Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and school goals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, and adults (staff & parents).
  • Demonstrated awareness, appreciation and respect of diversity among students and adults.
  • Sets appropriate expectations for individual students.
  • Experience working with at-risk student population preferred.
  • Experience working with economically diverse or challenged populations preferred.
