The purpose of this position is to meet the department's responsibility of providing safe and efficient movement through transit operations on and off campus. The position operates a variety of commercial motor vehicles on prescribed routes to accomplish this mission. Minimum qualifications include a California Class B Driver's License with Passenger and Air Brakes Endorsements, a non-restricted Commercial Driver's Medical Certificate, and a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience/training is also required, along with one year of operating a commercial vehicle while holding a Commercial Driver's License. The position requires skills in safely driving various transit vehicles in heavy traffic and under various environmental conditions, using mirrors to view objects behind and to the sides of the driver, operating wheelchair lift platforms, and performing basic mechanical diagnosis. The candidate must also possess reading, writing, and communication skills sufficient to convey clear and concise information to the public and staff, and to respond to questions without confusion or rambling. The position is intended to create a better experience for all stakeholders by increasing compliance, while promoting environmental stewardship and continuing to expand our offerings of alternative transportation options.
