Job Distinctions
Performs routine field inspection and spraying duties in the control of
mosquitoes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. The omission of

assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or
more of the activities described below.
* Conducts inspections of properties to determine mosquito breeding areas and
identify types of larvae.
- Notifies owners or occupants of inspection findings.
- Operates vehicle and mounted spray equipment and applies larvicidal and
adulticidal preparations to mosquito breeding areas.
- Mixes insecticides to apply on mosquito infested areas.
- Loads pesticides into the spray tank and cleans fogging and larvicidal
machines or other equipment.
* Reports large or unusual mosquito breeding areas requiring special larvicidal
applications from helicopters or large spray trucks.
- Performs preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Job Specifications
* Knowledge of mosquito breeding habitats and adult and larvae specimen
identification.
* Knowledge of control and extermination methods, materials, and equipment.
Working knowledge of larvicidal and adulticide equipment.
- Knowledge of Units of Measurement (i.e. liquids, solids and acreage).
- Skill in the operation, calibration, and maintenance of spray equipment.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to prepare written activity reports.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read maps.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Position may require extensive bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and
lifting.
* Willingness and ability to be routinely and frequently around chemicals
including pesticides.
Work Category
* Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30
pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to
move objects.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND
- One year of experience providing pest control services using insecticides;
OR
* An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would
reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above;
AND
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License; AND
- Possession of State of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer
Services Public Applicator License in Aquatic Pest Control and State of
Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Public Health Pest
Control Certification within the 6 months probationary period.
Emergency Management Responsibilities
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond
promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s
department, the County’s Office of Emergency Management, or County
Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the
emergency/disaster.
Career Progression
Employees in this classification that acquire the competencies and minimum
qualifications for the next tier will be able to apply for promotional
opportunities through a competitive selection process. Employees will not
automatically be upgraded to the next tier. Reclassifying a position is based on
business need and financial impact and is not based solely on the job
competencies or qualifications of the incumbent.
