Construction Inspector

SPM Resources has an immediate need for Roadway Inspectors (CEI Level II) for a national full service civil and transportation engineering firm in Columbia, SC. Will be supporting multi-year SCDOT and other municipal infrastructure projects performing, tracking, and observing daily construction activities on a variety of roadway projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Will perform work under moderate supervision and receive direction on complex and diverse field assignments and construction oversight tasks. Inspect and construction field work and prepare daily inspection reports and constructability reviews. Oversee daily construction work including work zone traffic control, earthwork, erosion control, asphalt paving, concrete paving, drainage structure installation, reinforced concrete, and equipment installation. Observe construction work in progress to ensure performance with specifications and contract documents. Review coordinated sets of working drawings. Complete daily calculating, reporting, documenting, and communicating verbally and in writing. Compute quantities for items such as concrete, asphalt, steel, earthwork, drainage structures, and traffic control devices. Operate company vehicle, computer, and testing equipment. Analyze shop drawings of moderate complexity. Maintain daily project logs. Give direction to general contractors and act as the owner's representative guiding problem solving and field changes.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma (GED) required or Associates Degree 3-5 years of construction/inspection experience on roadway projects required. Experience on DOT or municipal roadway projects including daily records and reports on asphalt paving, concrete work, grading, structural work, and erosions control preferred. DOT CEI Certifications preferred or ability to complete in a timely manner (company paid) familiarity with inspections of concrete, asphalt, and erosion control. Knowledge of road and bridge construction techniques, design, DOT specifications and documents, standard operations, policies and procedures. Experience using tools and equipment such as air meter, slump cone, transit, level, and tape measure preferred.
