Health Technician (Ophthalmology)

Job TitleThe VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being.Major duties include but are not limited to:Obtains and records basic patient information, including chief complaint, ocular history, and current medications.Measures and documents visual acuity using standard testing methods.Assists with basic patient preparation for exams, including positioning patients, explaining procedures, and ensuring comfort.Prepares exam rooms, maintains cleanliness, and ensures availability of basic supplies and equipment.Applies basic ocular medications as directed by the provider and within scope.Ensuring all rooms and advanced equipment are maintained, calibrated, and prepared for use according to clinic protocols.Providing detailed patient education regarding disease processes, diagnostic tests, and postoperative care.Triaging patient walk-ins, calls, and electronic messages, assessing acuity, and acting appropriately within scope.Documenting all findings and procedures with a high degree of accuracy and completeness in accordance with facility standards.Performing thorough ophthalmic assessments, including detailed pupil evaluation, extraocular movement testing, and comprehensive patient history collection for complex cases.Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pmTelework: Not AvailableVirtual: This is not a virtual position.Functional Statement #: 000000Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized.Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized.
