Controller / Finance ManagerFranklin Pierce University is seeking a collaborative and people-focused Controller or Finance Manager to join our Finance leadership team. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this individual will oversee the University's accounting operations while helping support the financial health and long-term success of the institution.This role is about more than technical accounting expertise. We are looking for someone who enjoys building relationships, mentoring staff, and working closely with colleagues across the University. The ideal candidate is approachable, adaptable, and thrives in a collaborative environment where priorities evolve and teamwork is valued.This is an exciting opportunity to join Franklin Pierce during an important period of growth and transformation, including a university rebranding initiative and fundraising campaign.What You'll DoLead and mentor the Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll teams.Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting.Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and reports.Manage the University's budgeting process and monitor financial performance.Oversee cash management and debt obligations.Coordinate annual financial audits and serve as the primary audit contact.Prepare tax filings, grant reporting, and other regulatory financial reports.Perform financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.Participate on committees and collaborate with leaders across campus.Identify opportunities to improve financial processes while maintaining a collaborative, service-oriented approach.What We're Looking ForBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.Graduate degree preferred.CPA preferred but not required.Progressive accounting and financial management experience with prior supervisory responsibility.Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and accounting operations.Experience leading and developing accounting teams.Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting software.Highly Preferred ExperienceCandidates with experience in higher education are strongly encouraged to apply, as familiarity with the unique financial environment of colleges and universities is highly valued.We also welcome candidates from nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, healthcare, municipal government, or other mission-driven organizations with comparable financial leadership experience.Experience with grant accounting is a plus.The Right PersonSuccess in this position requires more than technical expertise.We're looking for someone who is:Collaborative and approachableA strong communicator and relationship builderAdaptable in a changing environmentCalm under pressureTeam-oriented and willing to roll up their sleevesAn engaging leader who enjoys mentoring othersPassionate about supporting an organization with an educational missionBenefits160 hours (4 weeks) of Paid Time Off20 paid holidays, including a paid winter breakMedical, dental, and vision insuranceEmployer-paid life insuranceShort- and long-term disability coverage403(b) retirement plan through TIAA with employer contributionsTuition benefits for employees and eligible family membersFree campus fitness centerMeal discountsPet insurance, accident insurance, critical illness coverage, and additional voluntary benefitsAbout Franklin Pierce UniversitySince 1962, Franklin Pierce University has been committed to preparing students for meaningful careers through personalized education and strong community engagement.
