Accountant II, III

We are a registered investment adviser (RIA) specializing in defined contribution (DC) retirement plans. You are an experienced accounting professional seeking a new career opportunity. This position will be based in our Chicago office with a hybrid work schedule. Fully remote may be an option for an exceptional candidate. Job Summary The Accountant II/III works under the direction of the Director of Finance and plays a key role in supporting the department’s day-to-day operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting and contributing to the overall financial integrity of the firm. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Calculate, create, reconcile, and verify company accounts receivable transactions to maintain accurate accounting records Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and ensure any issues are resolved Assist in preparation of the annual budget, and analyze quarterly variances against actual results Contribute to year-end reporting and annual audit Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls; maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of procedures and processes Handle sensitive and confidential information with a high degree of integrity and discretion Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned Qualifications & Experience To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required 3-7 years professional accounting experience strongly preferred Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and standard accounting practices Experience with general ledger functions, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close processes Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, data analysis) Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills Ability to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision Company Description Retirement Plan Advisors (RPA) provides investment consulting and advisory services to plan sponsors and participants, with a focus on the public sector.
