Position Summary Shift Electrician responsible for performing electrical maintenance and repair on industrial machinery, supporting production, and progressing through classes from D to Lead based on experience and skill. This is a 3rd Shift position with a starting wage based on skill and experience. Responsibilities Key responsibilities include: Perform troubleshooting and repairs on electrical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and PLCs. Use hand and power tools, general shop equipment, and measurement instruments. Assist and train lower‑grade electricians. Supervise personnel and coordinate inspections and infrared thermography. Document work through reports and drawing modifications. Maintain safety practices and identify hazards. Class Requirements Class D Education: Completion of basic courses in AC/DC circuits, electrical schematic reading, technical math, basic programmable logic controllers. Experience: Minimum 1½ years in industrial maintenance/repair. Skills: Basic troubleshooting and repair with minimal assistance. Proficiency with hand/power tools, general shop equipment, volt‑ohm meter, and basic computers. Knowledge of safety regulations (confined space, lockout/tagout, fall prevention, electrical safety). Use of oscilloscope, ammeters, megger, conduit bender, pipe threader, tap/dies; perform conversions and calculations. Understanding of grounding requirements and ability to use technical manuals and schematics. Class C Education: Completion of courses in variable speed drives, electric motor controls, tech physics, national electric code. Experience: 1 year as Class D electrician (total 2½ years in Cerro employment or equivalent). Skills: Advanced troubleshooting with little or no assistance. Calculating loads and determining appropriate protection, conductors, and overloads. Conduit and panel layout, motor alignment with dial indicator or laser alignment set. PLC troubleshooting using RSLogix 5, 500, 5000 and Automation Direct Productivity Series. Class B Education: Completion of courses in fluid power principles, industrial and commercial wiring, basic welding. Experience: 1 year as Class C electrician (total 3½ years in Cerro employment or equivalent). Skills: Self‑sufficient troubleshooting and repair; ability to assist lower grades. Trending and drive analysis using appropriate software; basic program modifications. Hydraulic and pneumatic system troubleshooting and repair. Document modifications and changes to drawings (redline). Pass basic welding exam. Class A Education: Continued growth will be offered as technologies change. Experience: 1 year as Class B electrician (total 4½ years in Cerro employment or equivalent). Skills: Troubleshoot and repair complex problems; instruct lower‑grade electricians. Analyze electronic circuits and explain purpose and function. Troubleshoot programming and network problems; document progress and write reports. Use computer and basic office software. Lead Electrician Experience: 1 year as Class A electrician (total 5½ years in Cerro employment or equivalent). Responsibilities: Supervise and assist electricians or general maintenance personnel. Oversee and delegate electrical inspections and infrared thermography. Assist Maintenance Manager with replacement component selection. Act as goodwill ambassador between Maintenance and Production. Warn management of upcoming issues affecting safety or production. Train new personnel and assess supervision needs. Provide diagnosis and input to Senior Controls Engineer or Electrical/Automation Projects Engineer. Maintain professional attitude under duress.
