American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) - School-Based Pulaski, TN | Full-Time | 2026-2027 School Year | On-Site About Us TheraPeds Partners is a therapist-owned and operated organization. TheraPeds Partners is seeking a skilled and dedicated American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) to join our team for a full-time, school-based opportunity in Pulaski, Tennessee for the 2026-2027 school year. You'll work collaboratively with students, teachers, special education teams, and related-service professionals, with support from both the school district and the TheraPeds team. Position Details Full-time: Approximately 38-40 hours per week School year: 2026-2027, August through May/June Location: Pulaski, TN Setting: On-site, in-person Pay: $45-$55/hour, based on qualifications, certification, experience, and employment arrangement Weekly compensation: Approximately up to $2,100+, based on a 40-hour workweek Guaranteed hours, including designated planning, collaboration, and administrative time as applicable Support from both the school district and TheraPeds Partners What You'll Do As a school-based ASL Interpreter, you'll provide communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students throughout the educational environment. You'll interpret spoken English into American Sign Language and ASL into spoken English while maintaining the meaning, intent, tone, and context of communication. Your responsibilities may include: Providing accurate and effective ASL-English interpretation during classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities Interpreting communication between students, teachers, peers, administrators, related-service providers, and other school personnel Supporting students' access to academic instruction, classroom discussions, group activities, assemblies, field trips, and other school-sponsored activities Demonstrating strong receptive and expressive ASL skills and accurately interpreting classroom instruction and student interactions Facilitating communication while maintaining the student's independence and appropriate professional interpreter boundaries Adapting interpreting strategies to the student's age, language level, communication needs, and educational environment Preparing for classroom content and becoming familiar with curriculum-specific terminology to support accurate interpretation Collaborating with Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, special education teachers, general education teachers, related-service providers, and other members of the educational team Supporting implementation of communication accommodations and services identified in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Participating in educational team meetings and IEP meetings when appropriate to the interpreter's assigned role Maintaining confidentiality and protecting student information in accordance with district policies and applicable state and federal requirements Following professional interpreting standards and ethical practices Communicating effectively with educational teams regarding interpreting and communication-access needs while remaining within the interpreter's professional role Supporting students across a variety of school environments and throughout the school day Requirements What We're Looking For Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with strong receptive and expressive communication skills Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher, as applicable to Tennessee requirements Successful completion of required written assessment/testing, as applicable Required documentation submitted to the Tennessee Department of Education, as applicable Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification preferred Completion of an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) or ASL-English interpreting program preferred Associate or bachelor's degree preferred Previous experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings strongly preferred Ability to accurately interpret academic instruction, classroom discussions, student interactions, and school-related communication Understanding of the interpreter's role within an educational setting and the ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries Knowledge of IDEA, IEP processes, special education services, and educational accommodations Understanding of Deaf culture and communication access within educational environments Ability to collaborate effectively with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, teachers, families, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams Ability to support students throughout the school day and across multiple educational environments Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to prepare for academic content and learn subject-specific vocabulary and terminology Comfortable using technology for communication, scheduling, documentation, and educational purposes Ability to successfully complete required background checks and fingerprinting Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to exercise a high level of tact, discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment in internal and external communications Physical Requirements School-based interpreting may require working with students across a variety of educational environments and activities. The ASL Interpreter must be able to effectively communicate visually and physically throughout the school day Physical responsibilities may include prolonged periods of signing, sitting, standing, walking between classrooms or school locations, positioning oneself to maintain appropriate visual access, and participating in school and community-based activities as required by the assignment All responsibilities will be performed in accordance with assigned duties, district safety requirements, and applicable accommodations Benefits Benefits and compensation are based on employment classification and eligibility.
