Senior Full-Stack Engineer (React / Next.js / Node.js + Oracle)

About the role
Sweent is hiring a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to support our higher-education clients, including a public university in Kansas. The initial assignment is modernizing a large legacy enterprise application, built in PHP on Oracle, into a React / Next.js / Node.js system that keeps its existing integrations with the client’s student information system.

Background check: every new hire must pass a background check before starting. Offers are contingent on it.
Confidentiality: you must sign confidentiality and data-access agreements. The work involves protected student records (FERPA).
Identity verification: all interviews are on video with your camera on. Identity is confirmed against your I-9 documents after the offer.
Availability: start by mid-November 2026 and work about 40 hours per week during U.S. business hours. You can’t hold another job that conflicts with those hours.
Equipment: your own computer, reliable high-speed internet, and a working camera and headset. The client provides no equipment.
Experience: at least 7 years of professional software engineering, with recent hands-on work in all of TypeScript/React/Next.js, Node.js, and Oracle SQL/PL/SQL.

What you’ll do
Document existing database objects, stored procedures and business rules, and confirm them with business users.
Build Node.js services and data models over an existing Oracle schema.
Rebuild multi-step workflow and approval logic, with role-based access control.
Maintain reads and writes to the student information system.
Build React / Next.js screens, including dynamic forms and editable data grids.
Build PDF generation, scheduled email notifications, and Excel import/export.
Write unit, API and end-to-end tests, and verify the new system matches the legacy one.
Remediate to Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA and document the system for handoff.

Required qualifications
Senior-level full-stack delivery experience.
Strong TypeScript, React and Next.js.
Strong Node.js backend experience: REST APIs and an ORM (TypeORM preferred).
Production Oracle experience: complex SQL and PL/SQL.
Ability to read and reverse-engineer legacy PHP.
Experience migrating or modernizing legacy applications.
Testing with Jest and Cypress, or equivalents.
Docker, Kubernetes and GitLab CI (or similar CI/CD).
Clear written communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications
Ellucian Banner experience.
Higher-education systems experience.
LDAP / Active Directory authentication.
Section 508 / WCAG accessibility remediation.

Engagement terms
Hourly W-2 contract role; no salary or benefits.
Paid for hours worked; overtime is not authorized.
Final selection includes a client interview.
